16" vs 18" wheels
#16
Now, now... I bought a set of 16" wheels (with summer tires on them) in order to mount winter tires on them. The only problem was that I wanted to use up those summer tires instead of throwing them out, and those damned tires wouldn't die.
As others have said, the 16" wheels lack a certain aesthetic value.

Here's a second (or third or fourth) for 18"s on the Boxster. I've a set of 16"s w/winter tires (never used - didn't drive it in cold weather). For mixed road use, I find the 18"s to be a much better solution than 16" or 17" w/any suspension mods.
Depending on the approved tire/wheel combo's for the Boxster, the rolling radius difference is approx 3% - so there's not much of a change in clearance.

Thanks for all this feedback. It looks as though the primary issue is aesthetics for a non-track car; I priced the Kumho tires, and learned from my dealer that the price was slightly more than the PZeros. Aside from wear, I also understand that the low profile tires make mis-alignment much more of an issue with potholes, etc.
So, does anyone want to buy some used 18 turbo wheels (with dangerous front tires)?

Dunlops?
I recently purchased Dunlops for my 911. I could not be happier. They are 10x quieter than my last tires and 10x grippier. The ride is just so much nicer. I just noticed that they do have a Dunlop tire for Boxsters with 18" wheels. Given how nice my 911 is running with them, I think I might go that direction on my Boxster, when I need it. I did have Kumhos on my 356 and they were very nice and well priced.
