Default IMS question before ordering parts

Good evening all,

I have just removed the IMS from my 2001 Boxster S. Turns out it was a Single Row bearing with a spacer installed. Now I am a little curious because it used the old type locking spring and not a snap ring. Guess I am wondering if I have a free choice of going with a Dual Row instead of the original Single Row. I am looking at the FVD solution that I think is reasonably priced given that it comes with a new flange as well.

Any thoughts?

Your photo does not show the spring clip, is there a groove on the interior of the IMS shaft? Could it be that this is a Pelican kit? My other observation is that the flange looks rather beat-up, any idea what happened to it? Whatever your decision it would seem that you will need a new flange. You might find some useful information in my IMS thread here:

Grant,
Thank you for the feedback. I sent the same picture to LN Engineering and they came back to me that it was most likely a Pelican kit someone had installed previously in my car and that it had a Dual Row originally. There is a groove in the interior of the shaft that fits with the width of a Dual Row.

Based on that I just ordered the LN Dual Row Retrofit kit also to get rid of that old beat up flange, hope it works.
