Small but curious question. I was working on cleaning the throttle body today. I left the engine cowling and such off when I restarted the car. I noticed the small fan on the passenger side of the car in the engine bay didn't turn on. What is this fan for? And when does it turn on?

You'll hear it when it comes on.

It evacuates heat from the engine compartment.
It's on a thermostat, so isn't triggered until some temperature is reached
