Default Tiptronic shifter broken, worth fixing?

Tiptronic shifter broke on my 99 with 46k on it. The dealership quoted me 5/hrs at 180 plus parts, over a 1k repair. Is this even worth doing? And could this have cause any other damage to the car?

Can you be more specific about what is broke? Is it the shifter assembly or the neutral safety switch? What parts did the dealer say needed replacement. Read the item I've attached.

I would have to call them back to check, but I believe they want to replace the whole assembly. I dont trust I can do this job myself.

Other than this, the car drives great, had the IMS bearing done a few years ago, low miles..

There's nothing magical about the **** and button. The **** assembly broke (wore out) on my daughter's '01 with Tip. I replaced it with a cheap aftermarket ****, and it works fine.
