Default Help on Diagnosis

Hey all, I have a 2000 986 S 6sp and the other night was driving up a hill of about 5-6% grade at 80mph in 4th gear, downshifted to 3rd on the summit, got to 70 to go around a slight bend (on divided highway) when...

All of a sudden I start losing power and the engine starts lightly shuddering (so little I didn't notice it till a few seconds in from power loss). I look behind me and see plumes of white smoke. Go into neutral, coast with light brake, oil pressure light comes on and 2 seconds later the engine dies. Pull over and get out, "smoke" is omingc out from everywhere. It was then I notice condensation on the back bumper and deem it to be coolant. So I thought it was steam, however it was not hot at all (it was also 39 outside in a mountain range in Arizona). Coolant was dripping all over, but the oil level was fine. The temp gauge stayed at 175 the entire time.

My mechanic is busy until next week but has been gracious to check it out on Monday. Does anyone have some ideas of what could have happened?

109k miles, new coolant hoses at 104k, new IMS, just had oil change.

Just wanted to update everyone - the AOS blew. Filled everything with oil and seized the engine. Lots of labor involved but engine looks to be OK as far as critical damage.

If the engine seized might be some hidden internal damage, don't let your bill get very high before the mechanic verifys no major internal damage by removing all spark plugs & rotating engine by hand. Even better to use a bore scope.

Wanted to update all:

The engine has catastrophic internal damage. My mechanic found a 22k mile motor and is generously quoting me a fair price (in which with his respect I will not post online) to replace it.

Debating on doing it, or selling as a roller. Thanks for everyone's help.

You will probably be lucky to net $2,500 as is, and probably love it for ever if you get a good engine in it for $8,000 or less.
I have a rebuilt 2000'S" engine for sale, It has been rebuilt to 3.6 litres just like the engine in my 2000. I promise you will love the car forever if you go that route. $15,000.

300 H.P. 273 ft.lbs. Torque 2000 3.6 litre. $15,000
