I stored my car this winter disconected the battery and closed the hood since my boxster is a 99 with the pull cable... so about a month ago went to pop the hood open with the pull cable and unfortunetly the pull cable is connected to something electronic and i couldn't open the hood... but luckly porsche made a back up pull cable on all there 996 and boxsters
to open hood with a dead battery
-remove passanger side front wheel
-un-screw and un bolt wheel well cover
-reach your hand in between the head light and the inner side of the fender and you will feel a cable with a loop on the end... pull it and the hood pops open
good luck... it takes about 10 min if you know exactly what your doing probably 20 min if you've never done it before
