Boxster 986 ignition switch info needed
When the ignition key is withdrawn from the lock a contact can be heard making a click which is normal. Is this contact activated by the small pip in the middle of the electrical part of the ignition switch. i.e Is this the key removed signal which goes into the cluster electronic?
I am asking this question because since changing the electrical part of the ignition switch my courtesy lights etc. don't come on when the key is removed and the door opened. They do operate normally with the ignition switch on. Thought that the car had the transit/handover mode problem and took it to have the system reset using the Porsche software. The mechanic told me that this feature was not available on my 2001 3.2S tiptronic. / Anyone got any ideas?
Note that my original switch did not operate the contact when the key was removed but the battery drained due to supplies remaining on. However the courtesy light logic worked when the key was removed and the door opened. This is driving me crazy.

My experience is that the loud click heard on the key withdrawal is the steering column lock bolt dropping into the locked position. The reason many boxsters don't have this noise, I believe, is that the bolt gets gunked up and the spring pushes it slowly into position. My explanation with pictures here...

Thanks Elgy
Must be the electrical part of the switch which operates a contact inside when the key is withdrawn which takes the supply off. Probably activated by the small plastic plunger in the centre of the switch which pops back out when the key is pulled out. Will continue investigating when the weather gets a bit drier and warmer!
