Default A Curious Headlight Mystery

I bought a 1998 silver and red boxster, she's a beauty, but the lows needed replacing. After replacing the Low lights with new H7s I went from no light in either headlight to dim in both. So I took the headlights out again, re did the connections and re installed them. Without turning the car on I tested the headlights. Everything worked perfect. I turn off the headlights and turn the car on. Turn the headlights back on. Lows are dim and the brights switch didn't work.

Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much for your time.

I seem to recall that the high beam lights are actually the lower bulb. And weren't there 3 in there, high, low and fog. The high beams get triggered by the turn signal stalk. The lows by the rotating switch. So there are lots of things in play not to mention fuses. Sorry there aren't any more ideas, been a while since I was in there.
