Yes its true that you can get a used boxter for less than many new cars. Most of the average non-car enthusiest people don't know this fact. All they see is Porsche, and Porsche = expensive. I just paid $4500 for my '86 944. When I told my parents I bought a porsche and found out how much I paid, they couldn't believe it. We all love our cars, and love the attention it brings. When we are out and drive by and people look and say, "Hey there goes a Porsche, he must have some money."

And if you can't afford a new Porsche, then the next best thing is a used one, not a new Camry.

31, bought my first, and so far only, brand new p-car as a birthday gift to myself upon turning 30. Maybe I will get the next Porsche when I turn 40 (hmmmm, wonder what the GT2 will be selling for then )

I'm only 20, college grad, but self-employed, and got my 99 Boxster 7 months ago. And yes I paid for mine all on my own, no parents help, no co-signer, or anything. I just look at it as being very blessed. God Bless, -Drew

I saved 10+ years to pay cash for my 'then' new 96 993 and got a lot of grief because I looked like I was 18 when I bought it, am a female enthusiast and ended up divorced partially because of it. (He wanted me to put my life savings into paying off the townhome I bought before we got married and felt $75K on a car was 100% frivilous and a complete show of immaturity - despite his agreeing that I buy the Porsche with my money BEFORE we got married). ---and to think I bought a Tip just so he could drive the car too because he hated stick.. figures the car and my love of Porsche lasted longer than the marriage!
I now ALSO have an 02 Boxster S ...I did pretty well in stocks for a while and was able to afford it but I am still paying a mortgage on my townhome! Oh well, I spend frivilously but am happy when I drive!
Being a car nut is someting you either get or your don't.. and I think you either grow up that way or you don't. I grew up a tomboy riding my bigwheel and playing with hot wheels instead of playing 'house' and with 'dolls' with the girly-girls.
I guess that is why my boyfriend now get's me and has his own 993 because he shares my love of cars and I turned him toward Porsche (away from his 96 Viper GTS)
So now I am 36 with 2 beautiful Porsche's and still get the 'must be nice', ' you are over paid', 'why waste so much money' comments/attitude! BTW: interestingly enough, I get a lot of attitude from the VW crowd too when they find out I have 2 Porsche's (the VW is my winter car).
But I am a happy camper driving my Porsche's so what do they know anyway?
My Favorite Porsche ad:
"Porsche, there is no substitute!"
