Default Street Coilover Recommendation

I've got a 2003 Boxster S and I'm refreshing the suspension. I could buy bilstein shocks but then I would need to be top and rear mounts. Are there any solid street coilover sets that come ready to install right out of the box? I'd prefer a brand I've heard of before. Thanks

I like my AST's, but they may not be plug & play enough for you: http://astsuspension-na.com/

You may also want to try MCS who is based in Atlanta: http://motioncontrolsuspension.com/

The good but easy button would probably be JRZ's already set up from Tarett Engineering

Sorry if I offend anyone, but Bilstein's consumer product offerings are crap...

Interestingly enough, PCA Club Racing Spec Boxster has now moved on to Motion Control for their suspension, citing Bilstein's supply chain woes.

Throughout my ownership of various vehicle marques, I have been through a handful of coilovers, and have always disliked Bilsteins. Their customer service is non-existent, and I will never buy their products ever again.

Not coilovers, but I replaced the original shocks on my Boxster S with Koni Special Active shocks, and really liking them. No need to change anything (unless something is worn/broken.) I will buy them again.

I was wondering about the Koni. Do you think the "active" actually does anything? Seems like in the past on my BMW's the Koni yellows always leaked.

JRZ's would be awesome but pricey!

Thanks for the recommendations.

The PSS9 is a great solution. The Motion Control set is the best, but much more $$

I'm already going to replace the control arms as well. At 100k miles I'd like to not put 100% of the value of the car into it.

I would liken the term "active" to marketing material, but overall the shock works well for daily driving. There are a handful of folks in the other watercooled and aircooled forums who run them for track days and are happy with the performance. I don' t think the technology is new - I had something similar on my old motorcycles, and they were wonderful. You'll simply have to decide for yourself. I have not had any issues with Koni Yellows leaking, some of which were over 60K miles / 100K KM on my previous BMWs.

Have you considered the Ohlins coilover setup?

If you're worried about spending relative to market value of the car- then do nothing but replace broken parts.

If you want a wonderfully set up car that is a delight to drive- then make it so and to hell with "market value" of the car.
My boxster s is one of the most fun vehicles I've ever had-- on the street more fun than my gt3. PSS9's, numeric racing shifter, gt3 nose and aero side skirts, hardback late model cayman seats, ss brake lines, numerous other mods-- it is a joy to drive. Just sold- and insisted on a first right of refusal in event the buyer decides to ever sell

Another good option is Feal Coilovers complete with top plates $1300.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Tire rack has a great special on the Koni active's. I'm going to give them a shot. While I agree with comments I still need to be judicious with the budget and get the best bang for my bucks.
