Default Urgent Help on Tiptronic fluid levels

I change the fluid and filter a couple of weeks ago and when I refilled it I filled til drips, started engine and ran in gears up to 90 degrees. Turned off engine then topped off engine. Been reading several posts that intimates that when checking or topping off tiprtonic you need to have engine running, not off. WHICH IS CORRECT? Engine off and up to temp or engine on and up to temp? If engine is running wont fluid run out fill hole?

The '101 Projects' book and the Bentley Manual both indicate the engine should be running.

did as I said and raised car and made sure temp at 30 celcius and sure enough it required one additional quart with engine running versus off. What drew my attention was that once and only once it shifted real hard as I cornered and accelerated. That told me that it was low and partially starving for fluid on a hard corner. Glad I paid attention and thanks to the forum for your suggestion.
