Default Source for Euro style taillights?

I did a search for clear taillight lenses and nothing came up. (I did find info on clear side markers though.)

I think the non US taillights look better. Is there a source for these AND has anyone done it?

Why is there a difference? Do the Euro versions have colored bulbs in the clear areas?

I would assume that if we could find a non US website, we should be able to buy them, right?

Have many of you changed to clear side markers?

The photos on Porsche's web site show the lower half red upper half clear but photos from the Detroit Auto show indicate mostly red with a small clear area in the upper half.

I kind of liked the Euro look better.

There are always at least one set of the euro tails on ebay every time I'm on there. They seem to run about $150-250 on average. Hope that helps.

Or simply get them from the dealer. Mine were a lot less than $250, although I forget exactly how much they were.

Great!! Since you've done it, is it pretty easy? What about the bulbs? I assume that I'd need different bulbs, maybe colored ones.

Do you have any photos of your car?

Thanks,
Charlie

I bought mine from performance parts for my 99 silver Boxster and the bulbs were included. I'm assuming they all come like that. Installation was a snap and took about 10 minutes from start to finish.

Try Sunset in Oregon for factory parts. They charge dealer cost plus 15% (plus shipping), across the board.

You did a great job documenting the installation. I've printed the whole thing out.

I have one question though. You mentioned that the clear type are standard for '03. If that's the case, since my car will be an '04, I shouldn't have to even deal with that BUT the photo I saw posted from the Detroit Auto Show had the red type.

I wonder what the deal is with that. Oh well, time will tell. If it comes with the red ones, I may have the dealer do the install before I pick up the car!

Thanks again!

The 03 models all came with the clear top tailliights as standard. The 550 edition appears to have a new light that is mostly red. I don't know if this will be the light for all 04 models, or just the 550 or even if Porsche bothered to actually certify that lamp with the DOT at all. The 550 just might well come with the regular clear top lamps anyway.

I wouldn't ask the dealer to swap them, either. They'll likely bend you over on the part and the labor, when it is very easy to do yourself in a few minutes and you'll no doubt have little trouble finding someone with clear top lights who will want to swap you for your red ones.

You make some excellent points. I guess I'll just wait and see what lenses it has and how it looks in "person".

Thanks for all your advice!
