Default Boxster Calipers

Hello all: While my 'new to me' 02 S is on the lift for it's winter IMS and clutch job I'm thinking it would be great to refresh the calipers. I have rebuilt calipers over the years many times but painting them is beyond my pay grade. Brakes work fine but I did not receive ANY service records with the car and the brakes are just one of the things that go through my mind at the end of the back straight at Mid-Ohio.

How many miles on the car? My 03 S had about 62,000 miles and I replaced my pads and installed new SS brake lines along with a brake fluid change this past summer. While doing the pads I inspected the callipers and all was fine. Pistons moved freely and the seals were plump and no leaks. Using some brake cleaner I gave the callipers a cleaning and they game out looking new.The rotors were well within spec as well so I left them in place. My point is the callipers may be just fine and all the brakes need is a fluid change, which should be done every 2-3 years anyway, and a pad change. The callipers on these cars are very robust and the pads can be changed without removing the callipers. The Boxster 101 book has a great DIY on doing the pads, fluid, brake lines and if necessary a caliber rebuild. All in all any of these jobs are a good DIY. If you do decide to attack the brakes invest in or borrow a power bleeder. makes the whole job so much easier.

Regarding painting the calipers, I bought a caliper paint kit online and took it to my local performance tire shop. I think they charged me about $100 and they still look great after 5 years.
