What are the known problem areas for first and second year Boxsters? I'm looking into buying one sometime soon, and hear that the first year cars are "notoriously" unreliable.
I haven't read much about problem areas on these cars, and assumed that they were pretty robust.
Any advice? My toy car spending limit doesn't really allow me to buy a Boxster that's much newer than '97 or '98.

Take some time to read through this board, this topic has been discussed many times.
Some of the early cars had bad motors, but I would consider them FAR from "notoriously unreliable". Bottom line is look for a good example and get it checked out by a certified Porsche wrench. Take your time...it's a buyer's market.
