One thing I see often with track guys who start auto crossing is too much focus on suspension setup and not enough on tires and driving technique.

Didn't see what kind and size of tires you are using. Tires are everything in AX once you get driving sorted out.

The tires are definitely an issue as well, no doubt. I also knew the current setup wouldn't work as it was setup for hoosiers/slicks so needed some guidance on adjustments.

As for driver technique, you are spot on for me, that is an issue and will be worked on. My challenge was the car was so bad that i couldn't focus on technique as I was always fighting the car to keep it straight.

With the SCCA you could run in a prep class and run Hoosier A7. The class would be BSP if your car fit the rules for street prep.

Not really too concerned with classing. I have no interior, highly modded engine, monoball suspension, stoptech brakes etc, Locally the consensus is XP, Which seems to the catch all when no other class seems to work...

I don't understand the classing process, and likely never will. Just happy to have some fun...

XP is definitely where it classes. Without A7s or soft compound A15 Avon/ b25 Hoosier slicks car won't be close to well prepared XP cars but it can still be lots of fun and still one of faster cars .

My thoughts exactly, the fully prepped XP cars will always be faster, but the setup will be fun

To give you a sense I'm building my Cayman S into XP car. It will weigh about 2400 lbs and with turbo make around 500 hp. Plan to put 335 A7's on 12 inch rears and 315 A7 up front on 11s. Runs GT3 suspension with JRZ coilovers, LSD etc. And my car will be slow compared to fast XP cars that weigh far less.

I use my car for variety of events from SCCA to PCA AX, Track days , NASA TT and Northwest hillclimb association hillclimbs. Hillclimbing is really my favorite and I can run unlimited street prepared class with this car. It should give most cars in its hillclimb class a run for their money.

Your car would be awesome for hillclimbs!

Your car sounds like it will be a monster I am heavier and have less power than you and I cannot fit rubber that big on my car. I can get 265's on the front without too much issue, the rear though 295 is the biggest that will fit.

We don't have too much competition up here like you guys do down south. At my last event there was only 1 other XP car. It will be interesting to see what happens next year at the other events.

I miss hillclimbs, used to do them back home in Australia, they are tons of fun. We have one at Knox Mountain in BC, a friend has been hounding me to

Glenn connected with me, thanks for the tip
