2016 SCCA Street tire wars

He's referring to option XRR 19x8.5/19x10 sport classics, then using the -1" part of the rule you copied above.
A clarification that "X**" options on porsches are legal came out over the winter iirc. "Porsche Exclusive" options listed the brochures are treated the same as the port installed stuff by other manufacturers. They were kind of a gray area before that nobody really tested if they'd hold up in a protest.

I am wondering what new rule you are referring to?
13. Street 4.
Any type wheel may be used provided it complies with the following:
13.4 WHEELS
A. It is the same width as standard and as installed it does not have an offset more than ±7.00 mm (±0.275”) from a standard wheel for the car. The resultant change in track dimensions is allowed.
B. Wheel (rim) diameter may be increased or decreased 1” from the standard part.
Wheel spacers are permitted provided the resultant combination complies with the offset requirements of this Section. On vehicles supplied with an OE wheel spacer, the wheel spacer shall be considered as a part of the wheel. Wheel studs, lug nuts, valve stems (including pressure-relief types), and/or bolt length may be changed. Tire pressure monitoring sensors may be removed.

That is correct. You could run 18x8 and 18x11 on a 997 since that is the stock width for the 19 inch wheel minus one inch. So install your 315 or 335 Rival S. The 997 GT3 guys are down sizing to 18's so they can run the larger Rival S tires.

The original post was in reply to Speedemon who has a 996 and was having trouble getting the 255s mounted on his 10" rims. I have a 996 also and was planning to go with that setup but I am now concerned about doing that. The 8.5 rim might be a good option for the 997 or later Boxsters but don't think that's an option for us.

The specs of the tire recommends a wheel size of 8.5 to 10 inches... So at 8" wide, I'm not that far off...
I will recommend the ratchet method... that's using a ratchet strap aroud the circomference of the threaded area to help seat the bead right?

I just mounted up 255/35 fronts and 285/30 rears on my 996 turbo and while specs would lead you to believe there is a negligible different in diameter a quick and unscientific measure puts the 255 just over a 1/2" taller than the 285. Hopefully my diff survives my first lapping day on these.
