Judging from early test results, Bridgestone RE71R seems to be the fastest of the new crop of tires by a slim margin. But, still a lot more testing going on. If you can wait a few more weeks you might be able to make a much more informed purchasing decision. They ALL seem to be pretty damned fast tires, though: ZII*, R-S3v2, RE71R, Rival S and still waiting to see some real V720 testing.

I have a gigity feeling about that Kumho. Holding out as long as possible before buying next set of tires.

From last weekend's tour event, the RE71Rs are the real deal, very fast in half dry/damp conditions.

Word around the local clubs is that the RE71R is the best of the new crop of extreme performance tires.

For the past 2-3 years, the R-S3s were top dog. I've run the R-S2s on my DSM before and I felt the sidewalls were too soft. They fixed that on the R-S3s, apparently.

I chose Kumho XSs for my MINI when I had it, suited my driving style really well. Can't wait for the V720s to come out to see how those will compare.

Kumho isn't coming anywhere near usable sizes for us.

RSV2 is pretty much it - the new RE71 and Rival S are both wrong sized for our cars.

I just put on a set of RE71Rs on my 996. I went with 245/40 in the front and 275/35 in the back. I autocrossed last weekend and liked them. But I was replacing a set of ZIs with 225/265 widths.

FWIW today I saw the fastest CS FR-S at nats last year unbolt 2014 Rivals, bolt on sticker RE71R, and drop 1.00 seconds by the 2nd run on them, on a 40 second course. He says they are not even comparable to the 200tw class of 2014.

Other people running them show pretty impressive gains, but this dude is super consistent.

I don't like the slippery slope here; I'm not too keen on trading A6s for street tires that cost just as much for not a whole lot more runs. I suppose it at least avoids the hassle of changing tires at the event, but $2000 for a set of tires that likely won't even last half a season for my codriver and me is too much.

Looks like most people are getting good wear out of them. 1 fr-s and a stf car were the only two cases of accelerated wear I've seen. I'm a hack, so we'll see how the stone survives on my car.

What bothers me is the tire that's specifically made to work at one place under certain rubbered in conditions, and costs the most of all of them.
