Default Alignment

I just got back from the dealer getting a 4 wheel alignment on my 997.1 for DD and Solo. And the service manager a good guy in my car club. was telling me that all you could get out of a stock car was about -.30 camber and that is what I got with -1.40 in the back. I would have liked -1.5 in the front but I think my tires will wear better on the street. The car feels so much better as the alignment was bad to start with. The toe was + on one side and - on the together in front and the same out back. Maybe this is there performance tune for none track cars. We will see how the car does next Sunday at the next Solo in Denver.

From my understanding it's very uncommon to get get more than -.7 degrees of camber in the front of a 986/987/996/997. -.3 sounds low, but not by a lot. A technician more familiar with autox might find another tenth or two, but you're looking at diminishing returns until you have some suspension work done.

Being in super street I can only change 1 sway bar plus go to 2 way shocks and struts. So can't do much but the driver sure needs a upgrade sway bars:

I got -1 out of my 997. Eh, I think -1 on one side and -0.9 on the other. I've heard numerous people list anywhere from 0.7 to 1.0. I've not heard of 0.3 as a max. Sounds low to me too.

That was not the max but all the dealer would set. I need to go to a indie for more. They did tell me that my front brakes were at 4 mm so I ordered a set fro front and back of Hawk HPS pads and a GT3 back sway bar. I have a driving school on the 19th and the match tour on the 20th with the SCCA. So I will see what that does for the car. This is my second driving school for SOLO II this year. Maybe some of the things they are trying to teach me may stick some day.

I had a really hard time getting the HPS to bed properly. I followed the Hawk procedure, and the pads sucked big time my first few autocrosses with them. I was going to pull them off and throw them away, but thought I would do a last ditch effort. I got enough heat in them so that they were quite literally smoking - a lot. Then let them cool overnight.

After that, they were really good, and I'm at like 70k miles on them with meat left.

Thanks Burglar it sounds like need to take them on a tight pass that I know. They will show up today and I will install them tomorrow and do a break in. So Friday I will take them on the pass to check them out. This pass is like a autocross with switchbacks and you never get out of 2nd.

Seat time will do more for you than a sway bar, shocks, and alignment combined. I have multiple national level solo 2 trophies, 2 NASA National Championships, and have coned away prosolo and and tour victories and I STILL need to autocross every weekend to just to keep up with the fast guys. BTW they also autox every weekend too...

Have fun at the match event. If you can, check out the Evo school the Friday before the event.

Yep I'm already signed up for the class. That will make my second of the year. I'm also looking at 2 EVO class's mid July that say 24 runs each day. So much for rubber lasting past 1 year. As for the brakes I had to do them as it was time it was just touching the wear sensor, and the sway bar what the hell I like mods. I know being 4.5 seconds back is 90% me and 10% car. I'm having fun learning how to get faster.

Thanks Peallens and I'm trying to get as much seat time as I can. after the EVO class next week they are also doing some extra runs that night. I may do a few. As for the struts the car will not get that till she needs them as I'm just at 35k that will be a few more miles. I'm not sure how well the stock none PASM struts hold up but it should be some time till then . As for the sway bar the car wouldn't turn. Porsche made it under steer very bad. after installing the rear sway bar I took the car up in the canon today that has a lot of switch backs and tight turns but with rocks wall very close. The car felt neutral now so any bad driving or times is all on me. Now if I can get out of a few bad habits behind the wheel. I'm going to work on one or two at the EVO class. If I can keep my times consistent and keep seeing the course, oh what a sea of cones on the first race. I keep getting lost. The last race all runs were clean and consistent and I'm getting closer and I'm having fun.
