Timing Equipment
We are in need of new timing gear for our autocross events. One we are considering is AXWARE Systems.

Have any of you had any experience with this company? Or is there another brand of equipment some of you are using that you would recommend.

We have been using Lap Tracker Autocross Pro for the past 4 years or so. It has worked out well for us.
Here is link to a website with their information.

I think we were actually involved with their development as one of the names in their example chart is a member of the Tucson region that we worked together with to get a PC based lapping timing system for our regions.

I am just a frequent Autocross runner and occasional course designer. You may want to contact or autocross chair as he has been working directly with the system for a couple years now.
He contact information is on the our Website.

Look into AMB Timing equipment. Porsche Owner's Club has been using it for about 5 years and it works great. Some PCA regions are starting to come aboard, and PCA Nationals are run with it. Many other groups are using it as it is what the big tracks all use, one transponder on car and run in several different club events. SCCA has been using it for Trans Am.

Great system no doubt, but costly at 10k and requires loops in ground to run the system. Most autocross facilities are just parking lots so no loops in the ground.
Barry, Come on down to Az sometime.. Next autocross is scheduled for Mid December!

I only wish I could auto cross in December. Problem is up here we have something called frozen pavement covered by snow. I am sure you being in Phoenix probly head about snow from you grandfather and all this time you though it was an urban legend.
Sunscreen? You mean that it is also true that the whole world isn’t frozen right now, Geez I guess my grandfather was telling me the truth!
Good luck at the autocross

Some organizations actually tape the loop down on their start finish line, cover it with a "sill", and then multiple layers of duct tape. But I understand your concern if you are a small organization with limited funds and events.
We use AXWare in the Connecticut Valley Region with good results. The software installed without a problem onto a laptop and recognized out JAC timer without a hitch. The tech support is also very good. I would recommend it.

Our region went through this not too long ago - the basics I remember are this:
<a href="http://www.raceamerica.com/" target="_blank">http://www.raceamerica.com/</a> ~$1500 - RaceAmerica inexpensive but complete setup, no integrated display board (this is the hardware used by AXWare)
<a href="http://www.mich.com/~jacircts/" target="_blank">http://www.mich.com/~jacircts/</a> ~$2000-5000 - JACircuits, best overall value, complete setup, integrated display board
There was also AMB and Tag-Heuer, but those are simply excessive for autocross needs.
The one mentioned here that I hadn't heard of is the LapTracker - <a href="http://www.a-metrics.com/autocros.htm" target="_blank">http://www.a-metrics.com/autocros.htm</a> - looks good and very affordable.
I don't think many regions are using software based timing systems, yet... we run ~150 cars per day using the JACircuits setup and timing/scoring cards - works pretty good, though there are times when things get a bit hectic in timing... would be nice to have a computer to help out... YMMV
