On this episode of The Downshift, Motor Trend's Jessi Lang dives head first into the world of competitive autocross racing with the Chevrolet Sonic. First, she trains with Motor Trend road test editor Scott Mortara, who teaches her the rules of autocross and helps her establish the performance limits of the Sonic on the Motor Trend Figure 8 course. Then Jessi heads to El Toro Marine Base to finally compete in her first official SCCA autocross race.
Maybe she'll call in for some DE instructing

It is great to see some familiar faces on a very familiar ground.
This is the kind of videos that help promote autocrossing and create better drivers.
KJ, congratulations on a good job at Nationals. I'll hopefully be back next season.

Thanks Rad. I was fighting some massive rear brake bias. The rear rotor broke two events before nationals and I had to have a new one made. Turns out it has a ton more bite than the old one and I ran out of adjustment on the balance bar. The pro finale was the first test of the new rotor, but that course required very little braking, so the problem didn't surface until the first solo run.... Of six runs, four had spins.... I was a little aggravated. New front rotors out of the same material are being made as we speak. I should have the new wings next year too.
