I watched a Mazda 3 get airborne and roll several times last season, right in front of me at my flag station. It was not pretty. Part of the problem (we think) was a bar rear sway bar choice on an otherwise fairly stock car. Once a car is allowed, it's tough to speicify that they can't mod it, put sticky tires on, etc. You can't overcome physics, and that little Smart car is definitely going to be more tipsy than traditional cars due to the proportions/wheelbase and ride height. It may be engineered well in stock form, with street tires on regular roads. When weekend warriers start changing things to go faster, though, the factory testing goes out the window.
