Autocross is growing at ORPCA. We are continuing to establish this venue as a great way to tune up and/or improve your driving skills, and meet a great group of Porsche enthusiasts. As in previous years, there will be many new faces at this year’s events, and a diverse number of Porsche models and years participating - even a 911 Turbo or two. All of our events this year will be at PIR, in the Pro Pits or at the South Pit Area.

An autocross is a (relatively) slow speed timed event, where a solo driver competes against the clock on a course marked out with a set of orange cones. The course is designed by experienced autocrossers to provide opportunities to improve your driving and car handling skills, and to test the cornering, braking, and performance limits of you and your car. Speeds are kept down, generally below 50MPH, with a lot of the critical action in first gear and at very low speeds.

1. We are requiring legible car numbers on both doors of the car. Magnetic numbers are best. 8" tall is the approved size. In lieu of magnetic numbers, tape is acceptable. White shoe polish on windshields or quarter-windows is NOT acceptable. ORPCA will provide high quality auto-body-shop automotive tape, which will not in any way damage your expensive door paint. The grid starter person will reject any car with unacceptable numbers on both doors.

2. Porsche Club of America requires all PCA speed events to enforce the new helmet policy. The Snell 95 rating is no longer acceptable. Snell 2000 or Snell 2005 is the new standard.

3. Autocrosses will cost $40.00 at the registration table, or $30.00 if you pre-register on the internet. Go to: http://orpca.motorsportreg.com/ and sign up, pay in advance with a credit card, and save yourself $10.00. It only makes sense.

4. We are continuing the use of the Car Classification System used by National and enforcement of Readable Car numbers. You can find the current PCA rules at the PCA Web Site (http://www.pca.org/members/library/PCR/PCR.html and click on the link “Complete 2007 PCR” to see the rules). You will need to determine the class of your car. If you are having trouble, e-mail me (postmaster@oregonpca.org) or one of the Autocross Team Members and we will do our best to help you out.

5. ORPCA will be providing loaner helmets and instructors at the Autocross to those who need them.

6. We will be instituting a season points system to determine standings within the classes and establish official bragging rights. With any luck, you will be able to back it up with a trophy!

See you there.

Upcoming Autocrosses:

6/24
7/22
9/16

Lots of chances for you to improve your driving skills.

And don't forget to check out the ORPCA website at www.oregonpca.org.

See you at the track!
