Default track tires?

well i'm planing to do some track events this year and wanted to know your opinions on which tire sizes to run on stock wheels? I don't want to trigger any abs lights. but still would like to get the biggest tire i can fit on stock wheels. the two sizes i was looking at were

1. toyo's ra1s 245/40r18 frt & 305/35r18 rear 8/32s tread
2. nitto's nt01s 245/40zr18 frt & 315/30zr18 rear 6/32s tread
which would be the best combination?
I'm planning on driving to and from the track on these tires
suspension is not stock (installing jic/cross )

any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Adrian

You shouldn't look for the biggest, you should ensure the radii (true radii as
quoted in the manufacturer's spec sheet for the tires) is as close to the same
as possible (for your AWD and viscous torque unit). You should also read the
spec sheet for each tire to see the recommended rim sizes. If they say the
tire is OK on an 8x18 and an 11x18 you're OK, otherwise not. You're not
going to gain anything in a track event with pushing the width limit.
Some people have rubbed holes in their fender liners and needed to roll their
inner fender lips, running wider tires than stock on a 996tt, especially with
lowered cars.
I have competed with Kumhos in 245/35R18 and 285/30R18 on stock
wheels, and I have competed with P245/40ZR-18 P315/30ZR-18 hoosiers
on 9x18 and 12x18 wheels. There is no appreciable difference in adhesion,
and the Kumhos last a lot longer too.

Adrian.. what is your driving experience? Are you a DE beginner? Solo driver? Instructor? If a beginner, or, still instructed student, I would stick with factory sizes, non r comps. "small" street tires can be a great learning tool. Just a thought.

I have some track experience, I've been doing it for the past 4 years. I've run with PDA and Mclub I run in the red group, but that was with porsche c4 and sometimes the e39 m5 but mostly 996 c4 now that i've upgraded to a 996tt i want to just drive it to the track "run" then drive it home. I use to bring my track tires with me (hoosiers) in the car switch them at the track (run) and when done switch them back to the streets and drive home but now I can't they won't fit inside the car larger tires(996tt) can't fit inside. so i know i will be downgrading in grip and performance but i don't have a choice and since this will be my first time out with the tt i'm gona take it alittle easy(maybe) depends how comfortable i feel but needed to know what sizes worked best on 996tt.

Thanks for any advise

Go with the Toyos. They are the only true R Comp that I actually like to drive on the street. They give up nothing to a good summer street tire in terms of "streetability." On the track, they heat up quickly and stay consistant through a run group. They last darn near forever for an R-Comp. Buy them at Bob Woodman Tires (no affiliation)...good deals.

245F/305R sounds about right, though they you could also run a 275 F/335 R. NJ-GT from this board has run that on the GT3 (narrower fenders than your TT).

I run with PDA/M-Club as well...see you out there.
