Default Where does one AutoX in the D.C. Area?

After checking out SCCA, PCA, and BMWCCA, it seems that autocrosses are hard to come by in the Washington DC area. Moving from an area with autocrosses available seemingly every weekend, how can I appease my addiction when I move?

Judging by the response, I guess no one autocrosses

The Fedex Field (best autocross lot I've driven so far), is available once in a while for the DC SCCA.

I've a friend in D.C., Rob Graham. He drives a Boxster S and he autocrosses in the area. Feel free to contact him on my behalf: rob@thegrahams.us

I was kind of schocked when at last National Tour in D.C., a guy named Joe driving a 996 invited me to their local event. He told me that once every two months average the local PCA chapter has an autocross. They get 5 runs for the day, two more than the SCCA. I didn't comment about our NJ chapter.

Jupe and Radomin(?)

I was on the Potomac region PCA website and mentioned how many events one could do up (NNJR) here between PCA, SCCA and M CLub. They told me that Fed Ex Field charges between $6-7 thousand.. I think Giants stadium is around $2 thousand? There are tons of lots, the problem seems to be very restrictive "property managers" or the lots in question have been "beautified" by dozens of tree islands.

I saw events scheduled outside (north of) Baltimore and Cumberland MD (think WVa). Not so close... and not so many. My previous SCCA experience in the DC area was you only got 3 runs... I kind of prefer the "lazy" 6-10 runs nnjr gives in comparison

Maybe the DC area need to create a "co-op" to buy some land and pave it for the express use of autocross!

There are many opportunities to autocross in D.C.

1) WDCR SCCA series: 8 events, 4 runs per event, all at fedex field. Most courses are from 50-60 seconds. Very good course design as well. Also, very competitive as we have large fields. Not a lot of Porsches, however, we now have 3 Boxster S's. I'm in A stock and there are 2 in ASP. The key to this series is to get a season subscription (you will have to do this for 2005). The events fill up in minutes when registration opens for each event. http://solo.wdcr-scca.org/

2) MWCSCC Events: these are generally run at Rosecroft Raceway in Maryland. The lot is horrible, there are a couple of potholes and loose gravel that the course designers have to work around. The events are still fun though. Also, you can specifiy what heat you want to run so its nice to run in the morning and be done for the day. This link will have all of their events as well as the SCCA events:
www.autocrossers.com

3) the local PCA chapter, www.pcapotomac.org, has a short autocross series this year: with three more events to go: http://www.pcapotomac.org/pca/html/autocross/home.php

4) the local BMW club, http://www.nccbmwcca.org/, has an autocross series in DC as well. The BMW club lets any car make run. I have not run one of these events though.

5) the local MB club has a series as well, http://www.gws-mbca.org/index.html, again any car can run.

6) the PCA chesapeake chapter holds autocross events at ripken stadium in aberdeen, md. http://www.pcachs.org/, Ripken is about an hour and a half from D.C.

7) the philly scca autocrosses at ripken as well. www.phillyscca.com

Also, there are good opportunities to learn. The DC SCCA hold Evolution autocross schools in March and will probably hold one this October. http://www.autocross.com/evolution/

The DC SCCA hold good autocross schools as well. http://solo.wdcr-scca.org/noviceSchool.php I just did the level 3 school at ripken stadium and we must have got 40 runs in on a 40 second course. In fact, the course was the same as the SCCA NEdivisionals.

There are plenty of places to autocross in DC. In fact you could probably autocross almost every weekend if you felt like it. Good luck!

rwg,

Thanks for the response and the links! Hopefully I can get to an event soon. I look forward to going to an event every weekend, when possible. My situation up here in NJ allows for seemingly about 30 events per year, all within a 45 minute drive. I get the impression for events in DC I will need to expand my travel circle to get to the same number of events. Any idea on the typical number of runs one gets at DC SCCA events? 3 runs? 8 runs (mmm 8 runs )
