I've decided it is time to sell my DST BRZ, and as this year is going to be a slow autocross year for me (bought a house and have a Europe trip during Nationals), I'm going to be fooling around in the Cayman in BS for the season. My intent is to buy into the new Club Spec Cayman class for 2027, but figure why not make fun noises in the meantime. I've been curious how the Cayman would do in BS since I bought it a couple years ago, and getting some practice in another Cayman before buying a 718 seems like a good enough excuse as well. So I put a set of the new RE71RZ on and will be doing a handful events in it this year. It's obviously down compared to the Supra, but how far off of the Type R or GRolla is it?
Took it to the first CCR event of the year last weekend. I was roughly 2 PAX seconds off where I would expect to be had I been in the BRZ, which doesn't feel terrible considering its my first real runs in a mid-engine car, and the Stones hadn't been heat cycled yet. Also have some relearning to do in a softly sprung car, as I've been running in Street Touring for the last 3 seasons. Figure with all that, there's another 1-1.5 seconds in the car that I didn't extract.
I'll have it back out for the Charlotte tour here in a couple of weeks. If nothing else, I'll single handily improve the sounds of the class for the season.
I figure I see 1s of goofs in that run that are easily eliminated with more seat time and when the RZs come into their own.
See you at the Tour in 2 weeks, but I'll be in an ND in CS rather than my Cayman. I'm having a similar problem as you: transitioning from my super-stiff Cayman (strong bumpstops) to the floppy ND. The timing is all different.
Well definitely wasn’t expecting to win BS. The colder conditions and course design that didn’t allow the Supras to stretch their legs was certainly very helpful. Even with the 2 drivers, the Supras just couldn’t get enough heat into their tires, especially on day 1. The radiators chucking heat onto the tires was a huge help. I never felt like I was struggling to get the tires going, even on the first run, and it showed. I was 1.5 seconds up after two runs, and on the 3rd they got to within about half a second. On Day 2, the wind calmed down, so they could get the tires working sooner, and were a couple tenths faster than me, but my lead from day one was enough to hold them off.
Looking at overall PAX results, it feels about right for the car and myself to be just inside the top 1/3, but still a little painful to be in 87th after pulling out a top 10 last year in my DST twin. The course was certainly slower in the colder mornings, so PAX isn’t a particularly reliable metric, but should be close enough.
As the weekend went on, I could feel myself learning the car more, and using the rotation on corner entry. There’s definitely more to learn, and looking at the data from day 2, there was a few tenths of overdriving that I left on the table. I still feel like I’m in the learning phase of the car, so figure some overdriving isn’t the worst thing.

Very nice driving and congrats on the BS win! Nice to meet you.
The cold, wind and dirty surface on Day 1 was not fun in the first run group, as I was. Even with a co-driver it meant you had to get it done in one... the third run was the only one with some grip.
I would say the course favored my class, CS. But running first negated that. Day 1 there was only one CS driver in the top 25. Day 2 (actually colder, but with no wind) there were 5.
You ran 2nd, still with poor conditions. Both days the 3rd and 4th run groups had a very different course than we did. Basically, this was too early in the year for a Tour at Charlotte. Usually it's later.

1st group sure, but zmax doesn't really get that much faster when it gets hotter, at a certain temp it makes it greasy actually. I've been running here for 15 years and have had no issues setting top pax running first when it's in the high 40s to low .50s

It wasn't too early in the year, it was a day late- Friday was gorgeous!
I drove 4th heat in my BST 987.2S. I coned away my two fastest runs Sunday and had to sit on a run 1.3 seconds slower, but still managed to hold onto the 3rd trophy spot in BST. The Asphalt was hot even if the wind took the heat away as fast as it could build. My wife drove 2nd heat and was happy with our tires (X1) - she said they felt great almost immediately.
