Yeah it was unusually fast, especially Saturday. (I was running in SS) Sunday was a little more technically challenging but not a lot lol!

Who has a 718 base they want to run in SST?

I'll volunteer to run numbers and help set it up, springs, damping, etc.

Edit: for instance you're gonna need about 600lb/in in front and 800lb/in rear for proper stiffness, and appropriate damping.

Edit: I just looked at the Ohlins Dedicated (race/track) setup for the 718: 616lb/in front and 728lb/in rear. It's $5,400 (including tariffs!) but probably the easy button.

I think without E85 the 2.0t power number is going to be inconsistent/unreliable especially with heat or 2 drivers.

No good way to remove heat when the car is sitting still. She gonna get hot.

I've been thinking about that. What about three gas (or battery) leaf blowers, one into the engine compartment cooling vent on the right side (or maybe from underneath) and two more into the front radiators and keep the engine running?

It's sorta nuts, I know, but AFAIK it's legal. Last local event Krampert was next to me with an electric fan blowing onto the top of the Supra engine.

Lol, one way to get it banned. I'm kidding! Obviously they would help, but still have the slow drive to start. FI problem in general, but little worse with the mid engine.

Can a liquid to air intercooler be done in ST?

The following would not seem to allow changing from air to liquid, but would allow replacement with something better/more efficient:
  1. 1. SST, AST, BST and GST only: As utilized only on engines originally equipped with forced induction, induction charge heat exchangers (also known as “intercoolers” or “charge air coolers” [CACs]) are unrestricted in size and shape. Air-to-air CACs and radiators for air-to-liquid CACs must be cooled only by the atmosphere except for standard parts.

But, I think some high-velocity forced-air cooling should do the trick if you can get it where it's needed.

You could end up pretty sad specing an ohlins damper with their DFV if the tuning doesn't match your driving style. Compression and rebound adjustment on one **** would be a non starter for me at that price point. I just received a set of Ohlins TTX for the GT3... I bet they're even more pricy for the 718, with strut front and strut rear.

At a quick glance it looks like ohlins only makes the TTX for GT car applications. For really trying to be competitive you'd probably be best off with just getting some MCS or similar. Like I said I like the R&T for my low effort, still street driven 981 SST car but they're going to become a liability fairly quickly if you're going high effort. Plus something that uses 2.25" springs will make front tire fitment a bit easier. The ohlins out of the box configuration actually has less tire clearance than the stock struts/springs which was super fun to figure out how to work around.

It's already a air to water system. Looking into it a bit more, it probably doesn't help that the intake air is drawn across the front of one of the intercooler radiators. If that radiator starts to get hot, so does the intake air.

Ah, did not know that. Much easier to manage/maintain temps with air/water system, especially with upgrades being allowed for that system.

The tire clearance thing is interesting, especially if that plus real camber would allow a 275 on a 9 or 9.5 to be tucked in front.

I'd probably not go a high-dollar damper route myself... probably do what I'm doing for the CS Cayman: a non-adjustable system where I just get the damping done to my spec (with bump rubbers instead of coil-over springs) and call it a day. Rain? Too bad. Not quite perfect for any particular driving style? Adapt! But, literally hundreds instead of thousands.

I ordered a hand-held battery leaf blower to try out. I'm expecting it's a crap leaf-blower but maybe perfect for what we need. Predicted 93F Saturday in Birmingham and 94F Sunday in Huntsville.

I know some guys who have 305's on the back of their Cayman T. I run 285's on mine and would not want to go to 295's with my stock power and setup.

Thanks.

You run the short 285/30-18?

I run the 19” 255/35 and 285/35. Their OD is a little smaller than the stock 20” (my car has pdk and I am very happy with the 2nd gear top speed). I would say for ultimate speed in SST, I’d go with pdk.

A PDK in 2nd with that 19" tire should run to about 72mph. Could be perfect for auto-x.

It's a little hard for me to wrap my head around cars that will theoretically peak accelerate at 0.85g or so in 2nd gear. A stock C6Z06 only pulls about 0.7g peak in 2nd with the 315/30-18 Yok that most use. I found it an easy car to autocross having had previous Corvette experience.

If the PDK 2nd only gives 69mph because the tire is smaller it might be bouncing off the rev limiter too often, assuming it hasn't been raised. Some are offering tunes that raise the limit, but AFAIK only for manual cars.

For my 987.1 Cayman base in CS I've focused on increasing the transient response to where the car can match the ND in a slalom even though it is 3" wider and 600lbs heavier. Data comparisons say I've done that. For a 718 vs. C6Z06 maximizing TR is probably not the proper goal since it will already dominate in that respect. That's why I've been paying a lot of attention to acceleration first and grip a close second in this what-if exercise.
