987 Cayman S BS Tire Setup
It seems that the current hot setup for a 987 Cayman S in BS is 265/35/18 front and 285/30/18 rear (RE-71R). Obviously this maximizes grip and minimizes weight but would it be worth considering going to 19s and running 265/35/19 and 285/35/19 instead? Sure the wheels (probably 19" OZ Superleggera vs 18" OZ Allegherita) is going to weigh a bit more but it increases the diameter of the rear tire from 24.8" to 26.8" (which is only 0.4" taller than stock 265/35/19 rear tires) and you'd get a slight forward rake to give you a bit more weight on the front wheels. You'd get the same lateral grip but a higher top speed in 2nd which would be very useful for fast national level courses. Any reason why this logic might be flawed?

The 987's second gear is already very tall, and its second-gear thrust is weaker than any of the other BS contenders, so I suspect installing taller rear tires would hurt more than help.
Basically you'd be penalizing yourself in the speed range where we spend most of our time to optimize the speed range where we spend relatively little time.

Thanks. All valid points. Wish we had a 295 tire option though that was also just a tad taller. I don't think a reverse rake on a car that has a bit more rear bias in weight already is optimal.
