Default SCCA TT Nationals

So who is going to try TT nationals this year at NCM? I did the Targa Southland last year and had the most fun I've ever had in a car. Well they ditched Targa this year for the TT Nationals in September at NCM. Going to give it a try and see how it is.

I'm considering it, but the rules are terribly written. I'm not sure what car I will have by then, but I'm keeping it open as a possibility. I'm mostly only interested because NCM is a fun track, the rest of the format I could take or leave.

I ran Targa last year in the Blk GT350. Planning on TT Nationals in the 718 GTS IF the hurricane season cooperates.

I have a 991.1 carrera 4s and right now they have it in S1 against GT3/s and Turbos, Z06's and the likes. So I'm horribly classed, but might still do it for fun.

Hey Peter,

I was with Casey in the Bright Blue GT350. Hope you have been well. Enjoyed talking with you at Targa. Casey and I were supposed to go back to Targa this year and drive my car (991.1 Carrera 4S), but oh well. Now trying to decide on time trials. Wish they would move me to S2, but might just go for fun.

Don't feel bad I am probably in S1 also in the 718 GTS so I am definently going for fun. My wife is peeved that they didn't do the Targa this year. Jon K is in our corner so I am hoping it can be revived for 2019. I am going to bug Hayward in the fall for sure. You and Casey need to run the 1Lap next year. It's the Targa on steroids.

I've been bugging Heyward about Targa and TT. That would be great to get back to Targa. 1 Lap is definitely on the list. Maybe next year. What tires did you run for 1 Lap? Don't you have to run 1 set of tires the entire time?

MPS4S is the go to tire. There are faster street tires in the dry but most are scary in the wet. The 1st Vette and 2nd 570s this year were on the Michelins. No problem on tire life. Basicly 4000 +/- street miles and the equivalent of a full track day for the track portion.

that's great. Just sounds like so much fun. Definitely have to do it.

Yes, one set. Andy Hollis did a ton of tire testing for last year's 1lap. He and Dave Whitener wrote up most of it for GRM, but held some back secret- I think it's telling that he ultimately decided to run MP4S. It's a big gamble, though, as they give up a lot of time in the dry.

RE-71R is faster dry and damp and still really good wet and I think I'd gamble on them lasting if I did 1-lap. Wish I could afford to; looks like so much fun...

Here's last year's class winners, with tires listed:

RE71R is good in the wet when full tread and comparing against the other FAASST Autox tires. But it isn't even in the same ballpark when it comes to the MPS4S or the Conti Sport Contact. If it goes to the NE as rumored in 2019 it can be very Cold and Wet at several tracks.

Hey guys, I signed up for the TT nats at CMP this weekend. My 996 is in Sport 2 I believe, but I'm pretty sure I'll be driving the M5 in tuning 2 (coilovers bump you to tuning...) just so I don't have to deal with changing the oil to XP9, trailering it, etc etc.

I have completely stopped caring about SCCA classing/rules but I am hooked on doing more events like this now that I completed One Lap. If you are thinking of doing One Lap 2019, stop thinking and start planning. Go ahead and tell your employer and your family. Find codrivers. Start prepping your car.

I can confirm that the Michelin PS4S is a great tire in the dry and the wet. We pulled 0.82G on a wet skidpad in a 4000lb car.

Anyone else headed to CMP?

Are you going to get Christian off his Duff and get him to bring his 996TT on the 19 1Lap.
