Radio Navigation by Porsche Classic
Have had my eye on these for a couple of months now and have been thinking about dropping one of these into my 944 S2 once I have everything sorted out.. I'm sure I'll be told I'm wacked for wanting something that's essentially an overpriced radio in a relatively inexpensive Porsche, but I think it'd be really cool. It adds a lot of functionality to a car that's pretty spartan in nature without being one of those cheap & gaudi pop-up/out things.
Anyways, here's the catch - The only problem with this is that living in North America, there supposedly aren't any map files that are supplied on the SIM card that comes along with the kit. Does anybody know if there's a way to copy the map directory or whatever off of a 997/991/981/958 etc and download it to the SIM of the Radio Navigation unit? In theory, it should be pretty straight forward.. Doubt there's much experience out there with people tinkering around with these aftermarket systems Porsche puts out every couple of years, but hopeful in that someone's done a DIY update on their PCM units & perhaps has the files handy.
