#16
Let me disclose ..I am a Rotel Dealer.
Rotel is known for great value in high performance audio....
Check out the RC 1550 and RC 1580 two channel preamps and the RB 1552 and RB1582 Classic two channel amps.
Also, the Krell integrated amp is an amazing piece for $2500 (yes, I am a Krell dealer too)....but does not have phono on board like the Rotels......

Time for something different.
Edit: Ordered the units today. 20% off MSRP and free insured shipping. I think I'll be happy.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Maybe a bit vintage, but I'm happy, so I don't care.
Adcom GTP-500II preamp
AdcomGFA-545II amp
certainly two channel, phono capable. Right now running thru "vintage" Fried Beta IV which far outperform my Von Schweigart(sp?) VR-1s in my limited environment, and admittedly ameature "ear".
NAD is nice stuff, I just about pulled the trigger on a NAD integrated amp at a pawn shop for $75 just to have it. I held off as it looked fishy, all the screws had obviously been removed etc.

If you up your budget i have an amazing Accuphase integrated with phono amp for sale in the for sale section. This unit will outperform anything else mentioned but is not cheap. You get what you pay for with this stuff. If your interested i can offer you a special rennlist price.

Agreed Krell makes some great stuff. If you go with the Krell integrated then you pay big bucks for the surround processor if you decide to go home theather.
Adcom makes an AV receiver, lower cost then Krell stuff. You have NAD, Anthem,B&K receivers

Time to replace the Rotel and I'm finding the pickings to be slim (I just don't have the room for separates and I have no interest in a "Home Theater"). All I've found are the old standbys Marantz, Harman Kardon, Yamaha & Denon. Are these really my only choices? Anyone have a preference, specifically the tuner section?
It will power Revel F32s.
Thanks for any input.
PS. Speaking of input -- in my (limited) research, I came across a consideration I hadn't thought of -- not all receivers have a Phono Input anymore!

Here's a MAC 4100 Receiver from the late 1970's. I bought one on ebay nearly 10 years ago for about $600. I use it everyday. AudiogoN blue book said resale average is now nearly $900. Nice thing about old McIntosh gear; rebuild/repair by MAC factory at Binghamton, NY.

This is one hell of a stand alone tuner for less than $90 at Amazon:
Sony XDR F1 HD (size is a small cigar box)

When I went looking for a 2 channel unit I just went vintage and picked up a Luxman L105u Hybrid. Tube and solid state. It is an integrated amp so you just have to add a tuner which you can find numerous companies (NAD, Adcom, ect) for that. It also has a built in phone (which runs my Rotel RP6400),

Update
Got the units on Tuesday (tuner was on backorder) and have everything hooked up. An out-of-the-box review:
Arcam A38 integrated amp 105w/ch, older Rotel CD player & Revel F32 speakers:
Well. I had expected better sound, but I've been very impressed since the first few notes. Much more open. Improved bass. It's a cliché, but more musical. It really brought the Revels alive.
Arcam T32 tuner: I live in a rural area 50 miles north of Philly. For the past 17 years I've been trying to tune in my favorite 3 stations from there with limited success. The Arcam Solo connected to a Magnum DynaLab antenna that I have in my studio fares okay, but still needs to be in mono for clarity. The T32 brings them in strong and in stereo. Using the supplied dipole antenna.
Downside: The range of the remote sucks. Forget controlling from an angle – you need to be right in front of the unit. This is a big pain for my setup.
Other than that, I'm very happy.
('course that old CD player is looking like a weak link. *Sigh* The tail-chasing continues.)
A big thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Get an infrared repeater, it will expand the range of the remote. I can point my remote almost any direction in the room and it picks up the signal and sends it to the receiver.
