Default What's spinning?

We need a thread on music. All the greatest equipment is worthless without something to listen to.

What are you favorite or most recent purchases that you feel sound great.

Although I am not a huge fan of Neil Young my wife is so I purchased the boxed set of remastered releases of his first 4 lp's. I have Harvest on 30 year old vinyl and I have to admit the new release sounds far better than the original. I also picked up a MOFI of Elvis Costello Armed forces and I was less than impressed with it. Cleaner sounding then the original but dynamically not much of an improvement. I would prefer to listen to his wife Diana Krall although I enjoy his music I felt the pressing was somewhat lacking.

I figured I would start with these 2 releases and we can build on there.

What do you find sounds best on your system? I am more interested in sound and pressing quality than popularity of the music.

Please state if it is vinyl, CD, SACD etc.

At the moment, nothing. That will change later though.

I am very upset that Diana Krall married Elvis Costello, obviously she did not get my flowers and chocolates..

Picked up the new Santana "Guitar Heaven." Threw it in the car, some songs were OK, some sounded like lounge act covers. Some of the vocalist choices were pretty weak when compared to the song used. I can appreciate trying to 'make it yours,' but it fell flat on a few.

Played it in the family room on my HT system, same impression. Played it on my dedicated 2 channel system, now I got to at least appreciate the guitar playing and recording values on all tracks. Although, the guitar chops on Whole Lotta Love pale in comparison to the original.

Sure you can, Patricia Barber. : )

London is good, so is Chris Conner. More modern, Dianne Schuur and even Natalie Cole isn't bad. Linda Rondstat with Nelson Riddle is very good. I'm looking for Diana Krall on vinyl but none of the local shops have any.

Yeah i was heart broken actually more like in total disbelief when I found that out. What an odd couple. She has some very nice vinyl out there. Her tribute to Nat King Cole is outstanding single Lp on 2 discs heavy vinyl. She has an outstanding Blu ray disc of her in concert in Rio. on y HT it sounds almost as good as on my stereo. I am looking at buying her Xmas lp this year.

Patricia barber

I also picked up the Sade lp Soldiers (?) nice sounding.

I don't like Diana Krall's vocals, no idea why, just don't.

I don't think she is in the same conversation as Julie London.

Annie Lennox reminds me a bit of a modern day Julie London, at least in terms of pure vocals.

Then again, I really liked Patti Torre's free vocals on Dark Side of the Moon.

I was kidding, ya doofus.

Actually, I listened to all of Dark Side of the Moon and the "A" side of Machine Head by Deep Purple tonight.

I'm going to settle into the "fortress of solitude" to watch Iron Man 2 with my son (wife and daughter are at a friends) in a few minutes.
