Default Help with the mystery of the missing amp in a 987.1?

Hello, long term lurker, first time poster. I have an Australian delivered 987.1 2008 Boxster S. I would love some help with the stereo.

I've done a ton of research on the audio setup on my Boxster, I thought I had it figured out. I understand there are three stereo options for the 987:
  1. Bose (everything optical, bose logo on the door, and I think a sub in the passenger footwell)
  2. Sound Package Plus (7 speakers, ASK amp in the frunk behind the tire inflation kit, CD Changer)
  3. Base (4 speakers, no amp, not sure about the CD changer)
I did an inspection and here's what I have (and don't have):
  • CDR24
  • No bose logo on the door. No sub.
  • No ASK amplifier behind the tyre inflation kit
  • I do have a CD changer in the frunk
  • I do have a 6.5" woofer, a midrange, and a tweeter in each door. I didn't check the centre speaker. The woofer is in that plastic cage-like thing, so I think it is 6.5".
What set up is this? How are my six confirmed speakers powered? I thought the SPP had the ASK amp powering the woofers, with the head unit powering the tweeters/midrange, but the the base audio setup had no amp with the head unit powering the tweeters and the woofers (no midrange). How can I have six speakers with no amp? What am I missing?

Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

Mystery solved. Looks like my Boxster at one point had an ASK amp, but it must have failed. It was bypassed and looks like my CDR24 is powering all the speakers.

You have the wiring harness in there. I too have the CDR24 with no amp but mine is optioned that way. I need a picture of the connector to the amp.

I haven't unwrapped it yet, but here are some photos of the harness.

I have none of that in my car. The only thing I have is the end of a MOST fiber optic cable. That's really all I need to get amplification into my speakers.

Just for reference, the most cable is hidden behind the brake booster. It's those 2 orange wires.

I definitely had the amp at one point, but it sounds like you didn’t.
