Default Looking at a 2008 TT. Welcome some input.

Hey, I posted this on the 997 board and realized this might be a better spot.

I just sold my 2016 M4 cab and looking to get back in to a pcar.

Found this pretty nice TT and wanted to see if anyone had any intel on the car.

http://choiceautosalesonline.com/200...0/Details.aspx

A complete PPI was done from the seller and overall it's pretty clean. 2 owner no accident car. Tires and brakes are showing some wear but still passed. Needs an alignment and 40k mile service is due. I'm guessing the clutch and brakes are original. Not sure the condition of the rear spoiler hydraulics yet. I believe it has an aftermarket exhaust and AWE tune.

Any input welcomed.

Coupe or cab, 6MT or Tiptronic, is there a specific reason you want a 2008? There are a lot of 2008's for sale in the low to mid $70's range on ebay, cars.com and etc. IMO, I would focus on a 2009.

Link not working. Price dependent on particular options (sport chromo, pccb, sport buckets); condition; miles. Solid all round GT car IMO. If you find a good example, buy it, you won't be disappointed.

I want a cab 6mt. 2008 because of the price and it was first year of the 997 turbo cab. I'd like a 2009 997.2, but it might be too much of a stretch for me. I know they updated the PCM and added LED taillights 2009. Are there some key reasons why a 2009 would be better?

Try this link. http://choiceautosalesonline.com/200...0/Details.aspx

Very will optioned car - which I like. $145k MSRP. Plus clear bra, exhaust and flash.

No sports seats which I would like. Ideally it would have ventilated seats. Not too worried about the PCCB's.

I just sold my M4 today. I'm in no rush. I enjoy the hunt more than anything and really finding the perfect car

I saw a lot of 2009 cab 6mt for sale when I bought my 08 coupe 6 mt.
Ventilated seats were only available in 2009+. 2009 still a 997.1 with some upgrades (radio being the biggest).

LED's weren't available on the 2009 TT. Yes, updated PCM 3.0 with touch screen, Bluetooth etc. (but old by today's standards) is MUCH better than the PCM 2.1 and you also get some minor interior updates. For those reasons plus the 2009 TT is the last of the Mezger GT1 3.6L engines coupled with low production numbers I would focus there too. Although you will pay a premium for a 2009 6MT coupe it's worth the extra money because its a transition car with so many good qualities (future resale, niche market, excellent reputation, quality car etc.)

There was no 2009 997/2 turbo anywhere. The turbo DFI started being sold around july '09 as a MY2010 (A code in VIN)
The interior differences between a 2008 and 2009 are limited to the center console only (PCM3, AC controller and switch bank below). Beside the PCM3 being more modern it looks better because it is black instead of dark grey.

All 997/1 Mezger manual turbos are desirable. The center console difference is too small to make a signifant difference in the future.
A well optioned PCCB equiped 2008 is more desirable than a steel brake 2009. PCCB trumps PCM3 imo.

In Europe there is no discernible difference between the 3 years and good cars are becoming hard to find driving prices up. Good cars are hovering around 90K, up 5K since last year. Since 2012, when the bottom was reached, the Mezger Turbo has gained 15 to 20K in value. As has happened with the air cooled cars the US will follow, no doubt about it.

And the 997/2 DFI turbo manual is/will be sought after as well.
"Last of the manual" is not the same as "last of the manual Mezger" but still very collectable. And the low production numbers make it special.

There is nothing super special in my 2009 that I miss when driving my 2007. Ventilated seats are nice, but I don't find anything major lacking. IMHO the 7,8 and 9 are basically the same.

Thanks. I appreciate the additional information.

This wouldn't be my daily driver. I can probably live with the 08. With that said, if I can find the 09 I might go for it.

Does the 08 not have bluetooth?

BTW - hows the stock exhaust sound on the TT? Seems pretty quite. My 4S with sport exhaust sounded great. My M4 sounded like a lawnmower. Unless it was in cold start in sport mode and flaps open.

No Blue tooth from the factory in the PCM2.1. The stock exhaust is really not impressive on these cars. Pretty much sounds like a Honda Accord.

Bluetooth telephone connectivity and streaming audio can easily be added to PCM 2.1 with a MObridge or Denison unit. I had MObridge in my 2008, and it was great. I don't think this can be added to PCM 3.0.

The exhaust note in the 997 turbo is muted and bland, to say the least. I had Fister sport mufflers on my 996 C4S, and it sounded great. The 997 turbo was very quiet. Obviously there are many aftermarket options available to make the car sound better.

Thanks Dennis.

I spoke to the dealer and he thought the exhaust was stock "crawled under it". On the PPI it notes aftermarket exhaust and AWE. From the pictures, the exhaust does look stock.

BTW Dennis - I see your sporting a 2014 Turbo S cab? Very nice. That thing must be a beast. PDK i'm assuming?

Yes. PDK is the only choice for 991 turbos. It is a beast!
