Default Fidelity Platinum Warranty Denial - Front axle

My local dealership is trying to work with my warranty company, Fidelity, on getting my front axle replaced. I felt vibrations through the steering at freeway speeds and discovered, on the lift, that the CV boot was torn (grease leaked out of the torn boot, likely causing the axle to fail and cause vibrations.)

The service advisor from my dealership called Fidelity and Fidelity denied coverage for the repair, citing that the axle failed due to the CV boot failure.

I'm at a loss for words - this is Fidelity Platinum coverage?! I've only heard good things about Fidelity before.

Does anybody have experience with a situation like this or have any advice?

Update: Porsche Burlingame (and service advisor Chris Yip) did a tremendous job getting things straightened out and covered with Fidelity. I can't recommend these guys enough. Correlation =/= causation and Fidelity eventually ended up doing the right thing and fully covered the repair.

I did notice that CV boots are under the exclusions, but axles are not excluded. Fidelity is denying coverage on the whole repair.

I couldn't have known that the CV boot was damaged until the axle was affected and starting producing symptoms.

Just feels kinda disingenuous.

After more digging, the axle is explicitly listed as a covered part under Fidelity's Gold coverage (Gold coverage is inclusive to Platinum coverage), so now I feel even more confused and cheated!

Feel your pain but front axle has defo failed due to torn CV boot. Thats why bi annual service schedule is a joke for a car as complicated as a turbo. I've had two or three CV boots in 10 yrs of ownership from new caught early. If they hadn't been done large repair bill. You could try simply removing the front drive shaft and going rwd. a few guys have tried this and the diff noise vibration goes away and they have rwd to boot!

A buddy who bought Fidelity on my reco for his '06 C4, recently had an issue with the rear axle. They jacked him around, i think it was bolt failure or something as their excuse, don't remember the full story nor the ultimate outcome, but from what I recall, their denial was BS. But at the end of the day, all I can say is I think Fidelity plays every game in the book to avoid liability.

I've had fidelity platinum on 3 porsche over the yrs- & believe they have been fair- I know they have clause which exludes "wear items" when car is over 50k miles. so that always has worried me but my '07 997 TT only has 32k miles currently.

they just recently covered front motor mount, new steering rack (was leaking) & secondary air combi valve on wifes 07 Boxster S with 77k miles->$3k coverage. (they wouldn't cover lower thrust arms, strut mount bearings). Fidelity also covered several minor issues with door handle/lock, window not dropping, etc.

On previous '02 911 C2 Fidelity covered leaking rear main seal, xtra key remote that stopped working, window issue, etc.

I've not had any claims on my '07 997 TT yet.

It just seems like you are at their mercy. Having coverage then having to worry about them not covering something pretty much sucks.

Exactly what I was thinking of doing too CodeRed so I think I'll pass.

And what's worse is they have your money, you have the problem (with car downtime) and yet you have to jump through hoops to get it covered. You may eventually get there, but you'll invest way more time that should be necessary.

Warranties other than those offered by the manufacturer are pretty much bogus.

Since I have the same warranty this makes me want to check out the boots.

It makes sense they won't warranty it. Similar to having a failure and they find the scheduled maintenance that's pertinent wasn't performed.

I have Fidelity, they paid for my charcoal canister for exhaust system, gas cap, tpms and that cost about the same price I paid for the entire warranty. Anything here on is bonus and peace of mind.

I had preferred warranty inc, they covered an entire tranny rebuild, minimal hassle. This is the only Porsche I ever had an aftermarket warranty, only bc it was a long distance purchase.
