Default 20" Wheels On A 997.2 TT

Is there a thread on this forum that provides a comprehensive overview of considerations for putting 20" wheels on a 2010 997.2 TT? I have searched and cannot find anything. Would appreciate any input or guidance. Obviously, there are so many things to consider with ramifications on look, ride, handling, etc.

Thanks in advance.

curious why you would want to do this?

and what wheels you have in mind?

Can't chime in on the considerations of having 20" wheels on the 997.2TT other than for looks. Haha....but I love my TechArt 20" wheels.

Ride with the 20s and TechArt springs is a tad harsh on day to day driving especially on rough roads but with the DSC box, it made noticeable difference.

Looks. I do not like the Turbo II wheels and want to change them out. If I am going to change, I figured I'd look at 20" wheels as well provided there is not significant downside/trade-off in handling.

I actually like the HRE P40s that have seen them on other 997s and also the OEM 99736215700 which I believe came on the wide-body Carreras.

My Turbo II wheels are 19"X 8.5", 56MM offset in the front and 19"x 11", 51MM offset on the rears. The OEMs noted above are identical on the rear but are 19" x 8", 57 MM offset up front. Can anyone advise on what type of issue this creates on an AWD?

Thanks,

G.

Great look! Thanks for the feedback on the ride. Can you elaborate on the but with the DSC box it made a "noticeable difference"?

Have had the TechArts 20" and lowering springs on this 2010 997.2TT since it was pretty much brand new. Have not had any extraordinary wear and tear on other parts. Miles around 28k now. Car a daily and regular high speed road trips and some track time.

Essentially, riding on larger wheels and lower profile tires gets you a harsher overall ride quality (especially on rough roads), tram lining, more expensive tires, possibility affects acceleration due to heavier weight, perhaps more sensitive to tire pressures. Slightly better steering feel from lower profile tires and stiffer sidewalls.

With the DSC box, it made the ride less harsh and on high speeds, car felt more planted and confident (car felt very light upfront and quite hairy at high speed >120mph sweepers).

We have 20" HRE P40c on our 997.2, beautiful wheel and compliments the car nicely.

19's from a performance and ride quality standpoint will be better but it's not bad with the 20" either. They're more eye candy than anything though.

Wow- what a great look. Can you provide any additional info on the fitment- spacers, tires, anything else?

Thanks!

i'd love to upgrade to 20s, but now that i'm moving to Philly (city) I can't imagine having 20s. Great eye candy and love the look, just that extra inch gives me some comfort of tire between the road and the expensive rim.

20's on a 997 are right at home.... my NA 997 with champion 20's

Just need to find the right 20's... well made forged 20's can be less weight then some/many/factory 19's...

20 inch wheels are perfect on these cars look even better with lowering spring/coil overs.

Im running 20s ill try and get some pictures posted later for you. I have zero rubbing issues. Im running the biggest tire you can fit on the back

They are 20 x 9 and 20 x 12 but I do not know the offsets since the previous owner put them on the car. I may have paperwork at home that provides those details I'll check and report back. Can't use spacers on center lock wheels.

245 front and 325 rear tires.

GMG springs on the car (not quite low enough in the front for me but it's close so I'm leaving it alone)
