He did say he would be open to a PPI, but I agree it seems very fishy...definitely worth it to have a local scope it out if there is one in the area.

Pics are nice, and I bet it does great in a ppi, if that's the case there has to be a title issue of some kind, no dealer gives these away under wholesale, unless it's had a dead body inside. If he's selling at 55, then he probably paid about 40 for the car. What kind of '08 turbo goes for 40 besides one with a helluva story?

It certainly looks like a dealership that would have all of the high end cars shown in the web ad!

Man, looks like a million towns I drove thru as a kid in western Kansas. I believe it's near Dodge City.
Converted filling station, even used the old standard oil sign......
The blue Buick in front even has classic salvage yard grease pencil writing on the hood....nice!

Scam dealership, they take physical addresses of small dealerships in the middle of nowhere, create a website based on that dealership. If you look via Google maps the dealerships are always some hole in the wall lot with some beat up cars. Anyways, with "KD Auto" just take a look at their inventory...

991, this was for sale at Lewisville Autoplex, real VIN: WP0AA2A9XGS106416, their VIN: WP0AA2A99GS106066

That White 1995 Hummer H1 was for sale at Scottsdale Auto Gallery, real VIN is 137YA8337SE158543

If you google VIN: WP0AD29928S783070 that same 997TT comes up under Cars Plus Autosales, 504 E Lohman Ave, Las Cruces NM 88001 for $54,900...another "real" dealership that doesn't even have these cars listed online where someone created a fictitious online webpage selling non-existant cars which has now been shut down.

Etc...

So what happens when you want to go test drive the car? Is their whole game to get a sucker to wire them the funds only? Why would he be open to a ppi, unless he was intending to send a ppi guy to a corn field etc.

I'm sure it was more than 54k!
What's their game? Prey on car guys thinking they can the deal of a lifetime, their whole game is to get a deposit, any amount, then move on. All from the comfort of home, minimal overhead.

There was recently a 2007 black/black 6 speed 997TT sold in San Antonio for $49,900. Dealer stated no accidents, clean carfax etc. It had 64,000 miles. A buddy called to make a deposit sight unseen but it sold in a day. They didn't even have pictures up on their site as the car was at a detailer getting clear bra removed or replaced i don't recall. I called them personally and spoke to the owner of the dealership. I didn't get a feeling it was fraudulent as they had an LFA etc (much more expensive cars) for sale as well. I had a local guy stop by to check up on them as well and he stated they had several high end cars for sale that looked clean. (The dealer was http://www.autoshowcasesa.com/)

I'm not saying that's market, but sometimes you can find a deal. These types of fraudulent places are preying on buyers looking for deals.

Wish I had known about that one at Auto Showcase, I'm not too far from there. Even if that one isn't a scam, I'd wonder why it was so low. Dealers aren't usually keen on leaving money on the table, and 20 minutes on Manheim and eBay and Autotrader should have clued them in. I'm guessing some dealers give these cars severe mileage penalties like they're Ferraris.

There's no such thing as a cheap turbo, either pay up front or later to make it right. No dealer is going to leave 10-20k on the table for a 'quick sale'. You can bet that car for 49k needed work or had a story, ie salvage title etc. After buying and selling a bunch of 911 turbos, I can tell you for a fact you don't get something for nothing, people know these cars and market too well.

People always say "there's no such thing as a cheap <...>" but you have to bear in mind these are now 10 yr old cars that are still considered expensive to the average person. Especially the average person in a place like San Antonio. With maintenance costs being a question mark coupled with the high miles I wasn't that surprised.

Outwardly, there was nothing wrong with it besides high mileage. The first thing I asked was if the title was clean, that's kind of an obvious question. It sold very quickly but the next logical step would be a thorough PPI and DME report. The owner of the dealership was happy to let my friend do this in fact, but called back later to say someone came in with cash and bought the car sight unseen. Normally, I am pretty suspicious but they did have an LFA, various Bentley's etc in stock at the time so I didn't get the shady vibe I get from most of these small no-name dealers in BFE.

Who knows, could have been some issue with it we weren't aware of, but these are old cars now and the market for them in some places is probably not strong. Add high miles and you get weird results. Personally, I would be much more comfortable paying a bit more for a car like the gray one I posted earlier in this thread. That's a lot of car for $67k imo, and a very reasonable price given the condition.
