Default e88 offset confusion

i noticed that in OEM centerlock vs lug wheels, the offsets are identical 56F/51R.

however, when looking up the fitment for e88s, i noticed the offsets are different for CL vs lug versions: 48F/48R for CL vs 50F/42R (alt 50F/51R) for lug.

what's the deal?

I've only read people "missing the offset of a CL" when switching to lug wheels, but nothing about the specific measurements.

Do CL hubs and 5 bolt hubs sit in the same plane (distance from strut)?

def interested in hearing details behind this by other informed owners. i only assumed the answer is yes cuz A) the oem lug vs CL wheels are exact same specs and B) why would Porsche have the different wheel geometries on the same car just cuz of CL vs lug wheels??...i would think this would be a severe no-no by their engineers.

the different offsets of the BBS e88s is what's throwing me off.
anyone know specifically about these wheels??

I think because most CL have PCCB and have thicker hubs

hmm interesting.
that means, side by side, OEM CL setup would stick out more than OEM lug setup, given that both wheels are same width+offset. that seems odd, no?

then what happens with the e88s: 5lug mounted on pccb setup vs CL version on pccb??
the CL version would stick out more too??

I’m just going to throw this out there. In Europe, a GT car does not require clearance for snow chains. So my 5 lug turbo had more clearance than my friends 997.2 GT3. I run a 7 mm spacer and 15 mm spacer rear and then the same clearance.

So, is it possible CL falls under GT spec and 5 lug has the additional clearance requirement to clear snow chains?

The centers are simply different on center lock E88 when compared to a 5 lug E88. The wheel center is what determines offset.

If you want a 50 offset on a center lock E88 you can explore having a machine shop shave off 2mm of material from the center pad. That will get you to a 50… the difference would not even be noticeable to the naked eye. It’s 2mm. I would actually rather have the +48 offset in the front.

If you want a 42 offset on a rear center lock E88, you would have to run an 6mm spacer (5mm is the most readily available). I don’t know if this is even possible with centerlock wheels and I would not risk it.

**Alternatively, you might actually benefit from a +48 offset in the rear, as it might grant you more space to run a 3.5” outer barrel as opposed to the standard 3” barrel. This would be more visibly appealing and an aesthetic improvement you would be able to see with the naked eye. It would be basically like me putting a 6.7mm wheel spacer on the rear of my car…. I’m pretty sure I have room but it’ll probably rub. (I have e88’s also in the sizes you have stated above). it would be close, and the the tire would appear stretched if you don’t upsize to a 325.

…what would be awesome is if you build a custom E88 setup by getting a rear E88 center lock center in the +48 offset, have a machine shop shave down 5mm from the back pad and then run the 3.5” outer barrel and 8.5” inner barrel. This would get you to a 19x12+53. The center would look so sunken in because of the deeper dish of the 3.5” outer barrel. You’d also be able to have the same fitment as the desired 19x12+42 because of the 3.5” outer.

this can all actually be easily done if you order the E88’s in pieces like I did and assemble them yourself.

lot of work… but now you’re giving me ideas to convert to center locks so I can do this.

i'm currently running CL set 19x9 (245) / 19x12 (325) that are +52/47. so would the standard e88 in 48/48 be ok? the front rubbing with 48 is what i'm worried about. the rear at my current 47 seems/appears maxed out...going to 42 on 325 tire would look like it would rub.

oh btw..system motorsports commented 12-18mos wait time for e88 orders... wtf!
but this example of black w/silver is inspiring me to continue the hunt...

yes you’ll be fine. The below picture is of my car and I’m running 19x9+50 WITH a 5mm spacer so it’s really like +45. 255 tires also. And I’m low. Doesn’t rub at all.

12-18 months is pretty standard for E88. I know some people who have been waiting longer. Surprised center locks take that long… figure since those aren’t ordered that often, they might just have a set sitting around.

@NSXavier ha, i've been staring at ur setup for months now...but needed to find a black version to see how the silver would match up. was considering gold centers, but i think the contrast is actually a bit too much in comparison to the silver centers.

would u happen to have ur F/R suspension height - measured from center fenders to ground?
i'm at 26 and 27-1/8...thinking i have tad more room to go lower, pending my uphill driveway's 'permission'!

There are hundreds of different E88 centers and each has a different flange height which has an inverse relationship with offset; hence why offset numbers might be different. Flange height will be dictated based on how much brake clearance you want or need. +-1-3mm of offset is not a deal-breaker, many sizes will fit.
