Default Always Loved the '07-'08 997 TT, Ready to pull the trigger but need advise

I've always been a fan of the 07-08 997 TT and always wanted one. I'm ready to jump in and buy one. I've seen a few around $60K with 45K miles or so. Am I making a good decision? Also, what flaws should I look for when shopping for one. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I will obviously get an inspection, carfax etc...

1. Coolant pipe leaks
2. Clutch slave cylinder (if manual)
3. Front radiator leaks (caused by debris)

Overall like any used car, use due diligence and check for any service records, DME report, accidents, don't rely solely on Carfax/Autochek, etc.

These cars are bulletproof. $60k for 45k miles is cheap, but like always, sometimes the cheapest cars turns into the most expensive cars.

See if plugs, coils, and waterpump replaced recently. If not, it's overdue and that's $2K down the tubes.

I'd say an excellent investment because i can't see it going down in value much more (aside from depreciation from mileage). Budget for a Fidelity Platinum warranty and drive the thing.

Get a PPI and then just get a car. Just do it! You will be amazed beyond words. It's a slice of heaven. Be sure to be able to afford $3k-4K a year in case you have expensive repairs. They could easily cost more, too. Trust me on this. Stuff could come up. Tires alone can be A LOT.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the feedback. How much would a Fidelity warranty normally cost?

I also noticed that there's a huge price gap between Tiptronic and 6MT. Obviously 6MT is what I prefer and costs more. From you guys's experience would I regret if I get a Tip tranny VS. Manual?

Most would say personal choice. Pretty simple really...

Do you want to be fastest=tip
Do you want most involvement=6mt

Nothing wrong with Tip but MT retain values much more since Porsche don't make turbo with 6speed anymore. If I am in the market for an automatic turbo, I prolly looking at 997.2TTS, you get so much more bang for the buck. There are no wrong choices here, just my personal opinion. Since you mention you rather have the manual, I think you will regret getting the tip.

Nothing wrong with the Tips... If you go with a M/T just ensure you don't mind rowing gears, especially if you live in an area with high volumes of traffic...it can get old quick. There are plenty of posts available on how to do your due diligence before pulling the trigger. It's great information that could save you $$$$$$.
Also, if you're not abe to have a $10K emergency fund, you may want to consider a warranty with the purchase of any 997 that's not CPO'd. These cars are known for their reliability, but there are some failures that can be very costly. A warranty, is a nice security blanket and takes the stress out of ownership...
Best of luck to you! JB

I drove both an 08 6sp and an 08 Tip. Ended up purchasing a Tip. While I enjoyed the 6sp slightly more on the test drive, I knew I'd enjoy the Tip just fine, and I do. The deal-sealer was the fact that the Tip was $8K less than the 6sp, and I could not justify that large of a price gap just for the privilege of rowing my own gears.

I've owned both 6sp and Automatic (paddle shifters) sports cars and enjoy both. Even money I'd have likely gone 6sp, but on the 997TT the price gap does not equal that large of an enjoyment increase for me. Blasting through twisty back roads is plenty fun no matter which transmission I use.

The tip is not horrible, I used to be against it, until recently. A friend of mine picked up a PTS tip TT, I drove it and it drove surprisingly nice.

Would I get a tip? Probably not, PDK, would consider. Really at the end of the day you're buying it for yourself and that is all personal preference.

Do get a warranty if you can, it's costly upfront but it might save you down the road.

What is a "PTS tip TT".

I would never consider a Tiptronic. But i'd be all over a PDK.
