Couple weekend thoughts
I drove my car from TN to SC and back this weekend for a great football weekend, and was reminded how much fun it is to have it. Some casual observations:
1) This car is a better car than I am a driver (I spooked myself a couple times between Knoxville and Asheville)
2) I should use Sport Mode more often
3) I need to buy a new radar detector
But probably what dawned on me most was that the car is just about 10 years old. At what mark does Porsche stop having parts available? Since I plan to hold on to it, are there any parts I should start hoarding? (Floormats, radio *****, etc).
What a great car. I feel lucky to own it!

Probably worth asking on the 996 forums - if those guys haven't started hoarding yet, we don't need to. Very good point though, as I'd hate to be in a position of spending large amounts of cash on boring parts.

They made a ton of 997s, so even though the turbo was produced in lesser numbers there should be an ample supply of parts for quite a while.. I can't imagine needing to hoard anything yet..
I am starting to have an issue with my Classic Saabs that are now 25+ years old.. doable, but getting tougher..

I find the suspension in sport mode more comfortable on the highway. Rebound control seems to be higher and better suited for highway use even over bumps. Sport mode blips easier too so lately I'm driving in sport mode all the time. I was thinking the same and next year my 09 will be 8 years old. It doesn't feel like it's getting closer to 10 years old. Just another sign that the 997 is aging rather well!

Not sure if you're running stock wheels, but over the next year I'll be looking for a clean set of OEM center lock wheels for my 12 TTS...as time goes on those may become more difficult and expensive to find...thoughts?

That may not be a bad idea, JB. I tend to keep parts that I've pulled off my car anyway, and the ones I don't have I try to hunt down too.

I drive in sport mode with PASM set to normal mode on a regular basis.
I recommend the Passport MAX if you're radar detector shopping. I have the MAX 2, but the MAX 360 is available now.

I have TPC's DSC, so the sport PASM function isn't the same for me anymore.

Once the the cars pas the 10 year mark you are no longer serviced by the regular Porsche spare parts department but by 'Porsche Classic'.
They stock most everything you will ever need and if parts are obsolete they'll likely produce/order replacement parts that will keep the car OE.
I never had problems getting parts for my vintage 911's in the past.

Be extra careful on the fairly straight stretch of I40 between Asheville and where you start through the gap. It's a known radar trap area. I wasn't paying attention and they got me there a few months ago. My bad for daydreaming.

Took mine on a 200 mile run yesterday. Im cruising at 82 and new high powered Mercedes gets on my tail then passes. Is there a CL65? I hit the gas and in what seemed like seconds I see 155 mph on the speedo. and still pulling like a freight train..Yikes this thing is fast.
