Just curious, how safe is it to upgrade engine software with a higher rev limit? I bought my car with a FVD tune with a engine speed limit of 7,000 RPM. That puts me firm into "Range 3" over-rev territory which is 7,001 RPM's. Bounce off the rev limiter by accident and i could easily see it going into Range 4 territory.

The extra 150 rpm won't hurt anything. The 997 TT Rev ranges are R1 6800-7000, R2 7000-7200, R3 7200-7400, R4 7400-7900, R5 7900-9000, R6 9000 and up.
I would be scared of range 5 and 6. Even just touching range 4 won't cause major issues.

The extra 150rpm ain't the issue, it's the erroneous type 1-4s that are produced. Besides the turbo power band taps out at about 6900-7000 anyway, don't really need to bounce it at 8k.
It's not like the engine can't take it, they are well designed. I've had pushrod Sbc racing engines that lived at 10,000rpm, the Porsche motor can handle the Rs.
