Issues with Center Lock Wheels?

I see quite a few indications that the Center Locks are expensive to maintain and a PIA.

Can't someone enlighten me?

Thanks,
MK

Yes, they are a pia. Some guys love em, I had them on a tts and couldn't stand them.....

There has been a fair amount of talk on the GT3 forum regarding centerlock and conversion. Please take a look...

not sure what you mean by expensive to maintain....?

i have them on my turbo and they do make for a clean look with the OEM spyder wheels.

however, aftermarket wheel options are very limited. i waited and waited then finally moved on a set of HREs with CLs, recently.

the centerlock nut itself are spendy (see other posts, approx cost for 4 new of them are over $500), come in different colors, which can add a different look/flavor to the car.

removal and torque is another 'concern'. need the right size breaker bar, torque wrench, etc. your average tire shop (ie discount tire) will not handle the wheels/tires due to the torque needed for the nut. so if you have a great shop independent car shop or porsche dealer near you - that will help with that.

finally, if you get a flat - all i would recommend is a straight tow to the shop or dealer.

I've learned to enjoy mine. I have all the right tools, and it's not as if cars with lug bolts come with spare tires too. So a tow to the dealer may not be limited to CL owners in the event of a flat.

I like mine and find the CLs to be very easy to work with, not sure what all the fuss is about. If you have the right tools, it's a simple straightforward process.

Here's my thread on the CL.

Hate CL's they serve no purpose, just a gimmick

Track my car, have a separate set of wheels for this so am constantly taking mine off and on. Super easy to do when you have the right tools and a bit of experience. I really don't see what the fuss is about. There is definitely a cool factor to them which I like.
Regarding cost, if you are tracking a lot there is a maintenance schedule that is a bit pricey. the first is after 7000 track kms, the next at 14000, then every 28 000 track kms. See pic.
Overall I really like my centre locks and have no desire to go to the five lug.
