So anything definitive on labor hours?

Cindyscott thought perhaps 10 hours. Presumably that's if you take it to a shop for JUST that one service?

Can anyone confirm?

ALSO,... what would you think the hours should be if the pinning job is done while the engine is already out?

Many of us are doing it as preventative maintenance while doing a clutch etc.

Yes. I have actual numbers for Porsche Dealer. Not independent.
The cost of doing this is about 5,800 30-32 hours of labor + 3k in parts. Which is quoted from 3 different local dealerships. I called Porsche Walnut Creek, Livermore and Fremont and got these estimates.

You will also need to do a water pump, and some various other seals/gaskets.
If you have them remove the plumbing consoles and send to sharkwerks for service can save money in parts. But you will owe sharkwerks about 400-500 in labor.
There's also the sharkwerks water fittings, should you choose those. 535. for a set to replace the plastic ones.

Expect about 9k when all done.

BTW- While in there, do spark plugs, fuel filter, coolant, oil, flush pentosin system, cam sensor, etc... it add's up quick.

My comment is the hours needed if the engine is already dropped. At my dealership, it's a $3100 job including dropping the motor. That makes sense, given that it's about 8-10 hours to drop, 8-10 to pin, 8-10 to install.

It's probably 8-10 hours to pin once the engine's out, in other words.

Had a minor leak on an 08tt at one of the coolant fittings at 30 thousand miles. Pinned lines and added sharkwerks oil coolant fittings. Removed leaking fitting and used loctite 263 to reinstall ( recommended by sharkwerks) then pinned the fitting. Porsche dealer would only re epoxy. Some people have welded the coolant fittings, I didn't want to take mine apart to clean for welding if they weren't leaking. Good write on sharkwerks website if you want additional info. Shark werks has repaired a lot of these.

Crazy amounts of labor time. I guess I lucked out with mine. None were leaking, and none were loose...they charged me $500 while the motor was out to drill, tap, and pin the 7 fittings. I also had the sharkwerks metal pipes installed while it was out as well, so maybe already having the intake manifold off helped lower the time needed for the pinning of the pipes further.

I spent four 3 hour sessions pinning, cleaning and staring at the job a little too. Was pretty straightforward once you get in there. Dropping the engine and trans and separating them and organizing parts to be cleaned took 5 hours. Imagine install will be more like 8-12 considering I'm doing additional water hoses, Cup cables, etc..

I had a local shop do the work on my 08tt. It cost $3500. Took three hours to remove the engine. We replaced the water pump, hoses, gaskets/orings ( pump remova), pinned coolant lines, replaced ignition coils and plugs. Parts were approximately $1500. The water pump and coils were close to a grand alone. The rest was labor. Tried to take advantage of having the engine out to get any possible maintenance done. Porsche shop wouldn't pin the coolant lines. They would only re-glue them to original. Plus labor and oats cost were much higher. I did this because I had a minor leak in one of the fittings.

I had mine done after one of the 90deg coolant elbows below the plenum let go partially. ordered the sharkwerks 90deg kit and then had the engine out and pinned all of the coolant pipes etc and installed the sharkwerks kit. mine is an 09' with only 52,000kms on it. labour and parts was $5800 plus the $400 for the sharkwerks elbows. its not a bad job with the engine out. quite easy and quick to do. The elbows was the time consuming part as the plenum etc had to come off and we decided to reseal all of the oil gaskets etc.. so no future problems.

Wish I had read this thread sooner ! Driving back home at 11 p.m. I decided to floor the gas pedal (Tip Transmission) so much so that I got an engine cut off ! Three minutes later I get a check coolant level, after which the temperature gauge starts blinking. Pulled over and saw water vapor coming out of the rear vents. Drove straight to the dealership, left a note on the dash to my service advisor and called a cab home. Wish I had taken the precautionary measures before this happened ...

Same experience for me this morning. It's at the dealer now.

That sucks guys. I had mine done while my engine was out for tranny warranty work, nuthin leaking, one of those 'while you're in there' things, not convinced it actually needed doing. Unless you're actively leaking, I would only do it if you're pulling the motor for something else.
