Default Differential and Gearbox Confusion

Hi all,

Searched all over for a definitive answer with out much outcome.
the car is a 997.1 turbo automatic

As i understand front differential oil is straight forward, and ill be using this:
99991754600
please advice how many litres

As for the transmission oil ill be using this:
00004320700
please advice how many litres

does it have a rear differential? if yes what oil do i use? and how many litres?

Ok, this can get a bit confusing because the front diff assembly contains 2 separate components:

1) the diff itself, the front part of the assembly, and

2) the all wheel drive controller, the rear part

Both of these have separate fill and drain plugs......they appear to be attached but are separate and do not share fluid. That being said they use different fluid so DO NOT use the same oil in the AWD controller or it will *** with the clutch engagement in the controller. For the front part u can use use any good 75w-90 gear oil (the porsche factory fill is Mobile One but I prefer Redline as I track a bunch. In the all wheel drive controller part u need to use a special 75w/80 fluid with slip additives. The proper fluid is Mobilfluid LT 75w-80 - Porsche part # 00004330300. It is not easy to find. I order mine from RM European in Littleton, CO but u may be able to source from a dealer.

So I have a manual tranny with LSD (all one unit) which takes pretty much any good 75/90 oil....I use the same redline as in the front diff. You will likely need Porsche's Tiptronic fluid for the rear of your car.

So in closing, for ur car, use the Tip fluid In the rear, the 75w-90 in the front Diff and the LT 75w-80 in the AWD Controller and u should be good to go.

Andrew

Looks like you're all set to go!

For the 75w-90 oil, I know a lot of guys on the board also use Mobil Delvac gear oil and have been quite pleased. Its a bit more pricey then the regular Mobil oil but its supposed to be great stuff.

Fill the front front Diff and AWD Controller with their respective oils til they're full....almost a full liter in each I believe. On the Tip Tranny I'm not sure how much oil it takes as i never had one. Im sure a dealer can provide this answer.

Good luck

A

Pretty sure the factory differential fill is made by shell to porsche specs, not mobil.

It used to be Shell, now its Mobil.....hard to tell cause it just has a Porsche label on it:

The AWD is also Mobile:

Am looking to undertake this myself for my manual c4s. Does anyone have any pics or a link to a DIY for the awe controller oil? My car has not hit the mileage yet (its at 72000 kms vs recommended 90000) but its 9 yrs old vs the recommended 6 yrs change interval.

I still have another 3 yrs before the recommended front diff and manual tranny oil so the controller is my focus (although may do the front diff while down there)

Thanks!
