Default Engine in or out for coolant fittings pinned?

I have a 08 TT and was concerned about the coolant fittings. I saw a GT3 procedure where the fittings we done without removing the engine.

Is that the same for an 08 TT? Do they all need to be pinned or does a main one go most of the time?

Thanks

Get the engine dropped, and replace the three plastic elbows with the Sharkwerks pipes at the same time. All three of mine were leaking to a certain degree.

+1 on replacing the plastic fittings. Mine weren't leaking yet, but just do it once and get it over with. It's a perfect time to change plugs and coils too (and a clutch, water pump, etc etc )

I probably need a clutch and plugs. Asked my wrench about this (would do Sharkwerks coolant pipes if I needed an engine drop). Don't need an engine drop for clutch and plugs (I thought I would) and my highly trusted dealer wrench said not to worry about the coolant pipes for now.

Mine said just the same thing! So I got them to do a bit of work that would have been easier and quicker with the engine out, but was doable with it in. About a month later mine started leaking, and I ended up doubling up on a whole lot of labour while getting it pinned, and also missed out on a track day.

If it's time for plugs, that's around a grand in labor as compared to 1600-1800 to pull the motor including supplies. IMO, might as well pull it and give everything a freshening. I had the pipes pinned, new plugs and coils, new water pump, sharkwerks elbows, new clutch, new injectors, new rear main seal, and a few other maintenance items all done while the motor was out.

Mine has been in the shop for the last month with engine drop for welding pipes. Went for the Sharkworks solution on all pipes. Also the heat exchanger (oil/water) was leaking at a seam and replaced. Clutch, plugs and water pump all changed.

Is worth considering the electric water pump for the coolant to the turbos if your car has high miles, as well as replacing any hoses that have bulges in the rubber etc.

Updated my post above to include a photo of the elbow. You'd have never known it was leaking without dropping the engine.

Remember, you need to replace the plastic pipes AND weld or pin the remaining pipes, it's not one or the other, must do both. The engine should be dropped, 100x easier.
