Default Horn Leather Replacement/Repair

Got a small scratch on my steering wheel horn leather that is driving me crazy every time I look at it. Dealership says they have a leather guy that can repair it for 300, but I'm wondering if I can just get this price replaced. Dealership claims they can only replace the whole air bag assembly for 1300, which is not an option, lol.

Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated,
Eddie

Two of the best are: Dallas Steering Wheel and the other would be Classic 9 leathershop near Detroit. Both are two of the very very good ones for a 7TT grade car. GL

If you’re not satisfied with touching it up, and you’re patient, you should be able to find one for sale somewhere for around $500 or even less. There is just very little difference between the stock plastic and the leather, btw. You may be happy with the plastic. But yes, it’s the whole airbag.

Can somebody confirm is the skin can be relaced without needing a new airbag assembly?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Best way to find out is call the vendors we provided. DCSW can cover just about anything....but airbags are safety items so??? Probably need to ask them.

Good luck.

Judging by the picture of the one on ebay it looks like the airbag can be removed from the shell. You may want to try it yourself because if you do decide to send it somewhere for repair you may want to do the same. I don't believe Your supposed to ship airbags in the mail for safety reasons (if that concerns you). I did but that's just me.
Cheers

I can appreciate **** retentive behavior, believe me--I'm pretty bad....but other than the people on this thread, you'd be surprised how few people will ever notice the imperfection. This coming from a guy who has spent stupid money doing just the sort of thing you describe, and learned the hard way. Dumbest thing I ever did was cover the steering column in leather. Well, one of the dumbest anyway.

Is 300 a fair price for the repair?
