Considering 997 tt as a long term investment
Hey folks,
Probably on the wrong forum for an objective answer, however I thought I'd try and tap into some of your 997 wisdom.
Looking at a 997 turbo low mile cab and wondered what you folks would consider the best spec.
Also....thoughts on current values?
IMHO I think the time is right to get into a 991 as gen1 cars are starting as low as 35k+! Unbelievable value when you consider how good this generation is! I can't see them dropping much more than that? Coming from 993 forum and seeing what's happened to 993 tt. I am sure the 997 is going to follow suit and be a future classic.
My budget is more gen1 (I think manual), however for the right car I could go all out!
Also....any pitfalls or common issues to look out for?
Would like to know approx costs and intervals for servicing.(UK)
TIA

You are probably right. Long term it would be hard to go wrong with a good low mileage Manual coupe 997tt. The only problem is that they are hard to find. Good luck in your hunt. And please post pics if you buy one.
I wouldn't buy a convertible as an investment.

TPMS batteries last 70mo. / spark plugs will be due via age. other than that on a PPI GL. Collectible values I'd say cabs bring less than coupes. Tips less than sticks.
I agree on value in the buy.
I disagree on the investment rationalization bc it's a low hanging fruit, but it could be. good place to keep most of your principle- probably.
Have fun and enjoy.

Yes, because engine cooling is of paramount importance compared to, you know, manual transmissions

I own a 993 and the manuals are definitely more valuable. I don't think the 997 will gain in value as much as a 993.
One is that it's the end of an engine...air /oil cooled. The other is the driving experience, it's like comparing a 2015 corvette stingray to a 1965 stingray. The inside of the 993 goes way back. It honestly looks like a 1970's car inside. Minus the digital radio.
Analog vs digital driving experience. I like both, but apples and oranges.

Agree, but remember only about 3000 997.1 turbo manuals imported to USA, the last of the mezger 6sp cars. The low mile cars will be valuable, in fact they're twice as hard to find this yr than 2 yrs ago. Perhaps not to 993 levels, but close.

The most difficult part will be keeping your mileage low; they're way to fun to drive, and shouldn't be kept sitting!
There are plenty of more profitable opportunities out there, but if you factor in enjoyment in your ROI calculations, it presents a very appealing proposition.

Great point... But they are great drivers and easy daily drivers. Keeping it in your garage will be tough.

Actually there were very few "metZger" 997s made as they were replaced by a true race bred rebuildable block.
