997.1 Turbo or 997.2 GTS
Hi all,
I currently own an e92 m3 which I want to trade for a 911. I've narrowed down my requirements to:
1. coupe
2. MT. I know what a good flappy tranny(like the M3's DCT) is like and I still miss the mt.
3. GTS or Turbo
I've been looking in a 1000ml radius and can only find a handful of 2007/2008 turbos and 2011/2012 GTS. I wish there was a 997.2 turbo in mt around, but the only one I could find is 2000mls away.
Anyway, back to my question:
Would you pick up a 2007 997.1 turbo (40K mls) or a 2012 GTS (20K miles)?

you sound like me last year. I did the same move. Really tough call. If you drive both you'll be addicted to the turbo power, but if you think smart in the long run, a 2011 GTS will have a warranty and some newer bells and whistles along with interior accents. Also enough power to have a blast and not put you in jail. Turbo for the long term will likely be more expensive. However there is no substitute for FI and having the best of the best.

Tough call. I think of the two choices provided I'd pick the GTS. However, if you plan on moddign the car, especially the engine - the turbo mezger block has unlimited potential. In the end you can't go wrong with either choice. Drive them both, but as Ibanezgod already mentioned, the turbo power will spoil you quite a bit.

Had both. Just traded my '07 Turbo for a '12 GTS. I'm very happy. GTS power is obviously lower than a Turbo, but unless you plan to use all that Turbo power, the GTS is a very well balanced car.

well, I drove the 997.1 turbo and the 997.2 GTS today. I gotta say the turbo is my choice. It is 15K cheaper, has more power and to my eyes looks much better than the GTS.
Another important point - I expected the interior/electronics to be massively different and instead it seems they are pretty much the same. I don't care much about BT phone so that ain't a deal breaker by any means. I will have to look into LED tail lights though...
I think I might go for the turbo sometime this week...

I think the turbo is a better choice, but I am biased. I did look at a GTS with PDK when I bought my turbo, and I didn't like it as much as the turbo. Maybe it was the PDK, maybe it was the coupe vs. cab, maybe it was the power... it's really hard to say. In my case, I spend a considerable amount of time driving above 7,000 feet of elevation. Forced induction is nice at altitude.
Good luck with your purchase. You'll love the turbo if you decide to go that way. One more thing - there are aftermarket solutions to add bluetooth telephone connectivity and streaming bluetooth music.

looks like most agree with my opinion during our discussion while I was washing my car yesterday...
Turbo! Turbo! Turbo! Turbo...
But that's because I want to drive it. Ha.

I knew if i pulled up next to a turbo I would get sad, and no one wants to be sad driving a GTS
wow $15k cheaper, i'm surprised. The sport plus button does add a smile to the GTS, but it's no turbo spool.

Well, the 997.1 tt option fell through. The car was a mess inside, with broken seat heaters, temp ****, driver's lumber, and makes weird engine noises. I passed on it.
Now onto the fresh 997.2s MTs that have popped around Just have to figure out how to make the 2K mile drive to pick it up...
