Default 997.1 Exhaust question

Is the 997.1 all one piece (welded) from cats back? The reason is I'm looking at an x pipe to eliminate the muffler and retain original cats to save $$$.

Just for S&G's can anyone tell me what is the difference between the 997.1 and 997.2 OE exhaust?

So kept looking on the internet and right after posting the question found an answer or two.

It is all one piece and no way to separate the cats from the system.

The oem cats are 600 cell, best to find a used aftermarket exhaust with sport cats100 or 200 cell Custom work is not cheap

New to the turbos have an S now with tubi exhaust, sounds great. Pick up the new car tomorrow or Monday. So no idea what the underside/exhaust looks like.

Exhaust prices are quite steep and sound is very subjective. Not hot on spending another 3K to make it sound good. Oh well.

I just picked up a turbo s with Tubi exhaust, and it's glorious. Instant change of character and sound when switching into sport mode

Going through the same thing. I was able to buy an xpipe exhaust from Fabspeed for about $1800 with no tips or cats. Had to ask for it since its not normally available.

I'm making my own cats (HJS). Bought the cores for 199 each and machined two flanges out of 1/2 in stainless. Found 3.5 to 4 inch SS couplings (4-3 output) and will be welding it up soon.

I'll post some pics tomorrow. $4200 for an exhaust was more than I wanted to spend. $2200 is better and gave me a winter project.
