997T Values and Depreciation Prediction
Hey Rennlisters,
I'm new to the Reenlist forum and I've been an avid member of Corvetteforums.com.... don't tell them I'm snooping around here I just moved to San Francisco and I had been living in Newport Beach, CA for the previous three years. For the past three years I've been driving a 2005 Corvette C6 Convertible with Minnesota registration, but its time I get a registered California car. With my C6 being modified and not being able to pass emissions, I'm going to sell it and move on to a new car.
I'm considering purchasing a 997T.1/.2 in either manual or 7speed PDK, which I'm leaning towards PDK so my girlfriend/future-wife can also drive it on occasion. I wasn't planning on spending $85-90k on my next car as I was looking for a slightly used C7 Corvette in the high 50's but the turbo has me interested. I won't be putting many miles on the car and it sounds like they're a decent investment for a sports car, with relatively low depreciation. I'm reading that the 997.1 manuals have better depreciation than the 997.2 PDK's but I really prefer to ditch the clutch. What are your thoughts on the values right now and where they'll be a year from not to even five years from now?
I'm only looking for a white turbo since my black Corvette has been a part time job to keep flawless. If you're curious about my Corvette, the link is below.

Couple of thoughts come to mind...
The topic has been beaten to death right here on this forum. Try the search and you could easily find the info you are requesting. Here is a recent post that is pretty exhaustive. HERE
Also...you mention investment in a statement about purchasing a car. Most would agree, the two rarely mix. Certainly buy the car you want. But if you are considering it as an investment...there are many better options.
Good luck.

Let's not get off topic on investment statuses . I think it is a fair question, bc many times people are just asking... hey if I put "X dollars" into a 911 Turbo - how does my original investment fair down the road if I want to turn my 911 Turbo back in "X dollars".
I buy all my cars at 3 years old.. The time is right my friend.
I See you are in Cali. Ok -if you can get them to work on it a bit. closer to $105k off my cuff for a great deal. I'd get this tomorrow no doubt!!

I've stumbled upon your VIN decoder which has been really resourceful. I really like this car but it looks to be a stripped down base model.

In the world of 997 turbos, the 997.1TT is the most affordable to buy. Bargins that are close to bottom.
The manual transmission models have the least amount of depreciation and are starting to be considered collectable.
If you are ready to ditch the manual transmission then go straight to a 2010-2013 997.2TT PDK.
The depreciation will be more on the PDK cars because the manuals are becoming rare and the powertain is the same as the newer body style 2014+ 991TT.
The PDK is amazing. For San Fran it would be fantastic as well as for the missus... Do not let depreication estimates determine your choice too much.
With the invention of PDK, I would never consider a tiptronic car no matter how cheap they become.
I currently have a 997.1TT and it is a great all round car, Especially for the money! Last of the manual turbos!
I am however also interested in a 997.2TT PDK. Once prices bottom it will be an amazing bargin for a daily driver city car!

I'm really looking for a 997T in white with black interior. I've noticed there aren't many out there for the model years I'm looking at.

You already mention PDK and must have automatic for future wife, your only option is 2010 and up 997.2TT. For entry price with decent mileage and good condition 2010TT you looking at minimum high $80k to $90k. Also, they will continue to depreciate as 991TT is much better than 997.2TT in every way. 997.1 manual has a gem little Mezger engine in it

I agree with you 100% it is better in every way, but it is not say 50% better in every way.
Actually if anything I think the interior went backwards. I like there is more space in the interior but now you get less with everything. Though I am so glad they fixed the stupid leather issue. Since in the 997 the 2nd you sit in the seat, regardless of how you do it, you get little cracks all over the bolsters. But on any new porsche, either they wrap it tighter, or do something, I can sit in it, jump in it, rub my butt all over it, do whatever, and nothing whatsoever happens to the bolsters. They look perfect regardless.

For the OP...this is a really tough topic as "who really knows"...oh you can get on here and other forums and all the "experts" will speculate...but at the end of the day it is just that..."speculation". So to the Rocks point if you want to speculate there are many other and better options than buying a 911 Turbo...but on the other hand if you want to own one of the most iconic, prestigious, awesome (on and on) sports cars than figure out what you can afford, what options you ""must" have and go for it...you will not be disappointed...that I can promise!
But to appease your original post...for instance I own a 2009 TT 6MT (Mezger engine) in mint condition even at 32K miles...no seriously...the seats look like no one has ever sat in them...must be because of the the miles spread out over 6 years??? Anyway the 2009 is a rare beast...Mezger, last of the 6MT Turbo's, has the updated PCM, no TTS model for the 997.1, etc, etc, etc...and I am hoping some day (not sure when) it will be worth more than I paid for it or close to it...but I have no idea as currently everyone (including folks on this thread) talk about the rareness but still when it comes down to it people are not willing to pay for it...YET! Good luck with your search and Corvettes are very nice cars but they are not a 911...you will enjoy the ownership regardless of the model or year you buy

I've never seen such sensitive leather. The new porsche lineup leather is nothing like this.
