I'm not out any money, but you can bet this will start to get the attention of warranty companies eventually. I don't know how that works, maybe they just look at it as a whole.
I'm not the suing kind, but between this and the coolant pipe issues, it does make one wonder.

Dont forget to add the slave cylinder debacle to the class action . Seems like if you own a 996 TT and 997TT long enough it will experience a slave failure. And it's hit or miss with fidelity, some inspectors call it a "clutch wear part" others are more friendly LOL!!

I kinda wonder if this isn't starting to be class action lawsuit type stuff. Seems pretty prevalent.

I had a similar issue… I own a stock 2007TT tip and took the car to the shop for the 60000 mile maintenance, after performing the maintenance they noticed the car was running rough and it showed a P0018 code (I did not have a CEL when I brought it in) they checked the coil packs then stated they were cracking and suggested to change them along with changing the spark plugs, I agreed and they changed them.
They started the car and it would run smooth for a couple of minutes, then it would start running rough and still showed the code, the tech went down his checklist and after doing a process of elimination he believed the sleeve on the camshaft had moved. After having the engine torn down they discovered the sleeve on the camshaft was fine but replaced the camshaft adjuster, actuators and solenoid that cleared up the issue. So far it appears the car is running fine. Hope this info helps.

So much for trying to keep this car without an extended warranty. I did not want to go for the money but it looks like its required now. Disappointed with this cam shaft issue for sure.

I've done a fair amount of research on this, and I've found posts dating back to 2009 and 2010 with it. It always starts with a P0021 code like Ibanezgod and I got.

Wow, this scary, especially since I am out of warranty. Anyone know if this happened to the 996TT, basically same motor. It's been out since 01, I same seen many with tons of miles.
Maybe a bad batch of motors, in the 997tt?

The 996tt's don't have this sleeve, according to what I've been told.
